@garykarczewski66786 жыл бұрын
What is wrong with using a powerful shop vacuum for a third the cost of all these dust collectors? All one needs to bring a wet/dry vacuum up to par with these is purchase their low cost dust collection bag to go in the container and add a HEPA Filter. There are great hose adapter kits which will fit almost every powered hand tool, contractor saw, as well as miter saws for all types of vacuums.
@a-carpenter92296 жыл бұрын
They still wouldn't be fall under the osha rules of having a filter cleaning mechanism built into them, I've done what you've mentioned and there would be no comparison to what these dust extractors can do as far as keeping the suction up, once those bags you speak of gets caked up with drywall and concrete dust then you pretty much have a quarter of the suction while the bag isn't near full, I've been there, done that and got sick of it so I ordered a new Metabo dust extractor for remodeling work, I used a grinder with a tuck pointing guard for cutting out plaster and tile walls and floors in bathrooms and wet/dry vacs are useless for the job, even a festool dust extractor is useless for the job because the dust cakes to the inside of the bags and lose suction

I use Pulse Bacs for my concrete grinding/polishing business to run hand grinders and even large floor grinders. We use the large 1250 Pulse Bacs and they just keep going and work great but at $4500 they better be good..I don't know how the smaller CDC Pulse Bacs like the one in this vid work, but I know their larger ones like the 1250 are very good and strong vacs especially for demanding work like concrete grinding 8hrs a day. They have also been around for a very long time and were one of the first with automatic filter cleaning and they have proven their worth. Having said all that, Im definitely going to buy one of these Makita vacs to try out on our 5" and 9" hand grinders

Makita should have been the winner - it performed the best in the main category - which is about sucking - the quality of the hose or wheel is not critical. The whole point of a dust collector is how well it sucks. This review sucks.

9/29/2017 UPDATES - Since this video was posted and the OSHA Regulations hit there have been some changes to this video. 1. CS Unitec price has come down to $599 (with HEPA filters) inline with Bosch, Milwaukee, Dewalt and others! 2. Bosch VAC090A & VAC140A now get a free HEPA filter and Fleece bag added (from reputable Bosch dealers at least)!

I really would like to see some testing on what these vacuums are designed for - extracting dust. Sucking up water can be done with a regular vac. I understand that shows the strength of their suction, but does that relate to c.f.m? It's been my experience that when attaching a vac to a tool or collecting dust, the volume of air flow is more important than the strength. I think if your test would be more relevant if it included a test of what these are actually designed to do. I'll be purchasing one of these units this month, and I need to know which one will will keep up with the demands of dust extraction, need less time being emptied, which one is the messiest to empty, etc. This would have been a good review for vacs you'll use on general wet dry applications. I see nothing here that tells me which one will keep up with my chipping hammer or 7" floor grinder removing thinset. If you're buying this you suck up water your over paying. An 80$ rigid wet dry vac from home depot would outperform these 600$ vacs the way you've reviewed them.

We contacted Festool and they confirmed that none of their tools or vacs are rated for concrete work, and confirmed that they have no plans at this time to produce concrete tools or vacs. The shop vacs we featured are all OSHA compliant for silica dust extraction. Festool makes some extremely nice woodworking vacs that we may feature in a future video.
@DeviloftheHelll7 жыл бұрын
well, they have vacs that are classed as "M" and "H" which both contains hepa filters, which alone suitable for concrete work as well as asbestos, as well as automatic filter cleaners, i dont know about other brands apart from the ones hilti produces, they fill up quickly cos of the badly placed inlet shout and the main filter dips into the container, and fills up quickly with dust when you use them for wall chasers what we have here in europe, while the ctm36 hd festool vac i have it sucks till the bag is packed solid with dust without losing more than 10% suction power from the same brick and concrete dust 36 liters of solid fine dust without any issue of getting trough the filter
@a-carpenter92296 жыл бұрын
DeviloftheHelll hey do you use the automatic filter cleaning setting on the festool dust extractor when sucking up concrete dust through the fleece bag and if so does it help shake the dust off the inside of the bag? I have a festool CT Midi and have used it for cutting out tile walls and floors when remodeling while using a cyclone dust separator and my experience is the fine dust cakes to the inside of the bag and lose suction to where it's useless and the bag is only 20% full, wood and mdf sawdust is a different story, that stuff doest cake to the inside of the bag like drywall and concrete dust does, I've ordered a Metabo dust extractor and will see how that works
