Silicon Bites #57 - North Korea is Now Deeply Committed to Enabling Russian Victory against Ukraine.

Edition No57 | 16-10-2024 - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused North Korea of sending military personnel to Russia. And judging by the media coverage, this is not seen as a big deal. It may be worth spelling that out. Iranian drones batter Ukrainian cities, killing civilians daily. Approximately half the three million artillery shells Russia uses annually come from North Korea. And now North Korea is sending its own troops to invade European territory. This is not hyperbole, or clickbait. North Korea is literally involved in the invasion of a sovereign European democracy, involved in the slaughter of innocent European civilians, and apparently neither the media nor our esteemed leaders seem to give a rat’s arse about it. Is this the moment where history will judge that Western democracy faltered and failed?

Russia has said it signed a treaty with North Korea that provides “strategic cooperation” in all areas. Further it adds for the avoidance of doubt, that the deal with North Korea is ‘unambiguous’. The treaty includes a mutual assistance clause, in which each side committed to help resist external aggression. That’s an interesting commitment, when Russia is struggling to retake its own territories in the Kursk oblast.
Putin signed the treaty with North Korea earlier this year but did not explain how it might be put into practice. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov was asked whether the treaty obliged Russia to back North Korea in a conflict and he said the wording of the agreement was “quite unambiguous.” And involves “truly strategic deep cooperation in all areas, including security.

When Iran first started sending Shaheed drones to Russia, I remember reading about Iranian Revolutionary Guards being sent to fire them, I'm sure that I read that they were deployed to Crimea. So Iran has also invaded sovereign Ukranian territory with armed men to support Russia. Now North Korea has done the same.

@ninjanik2095 Actually, I have been checking. Iran DID deploy revolutionary guards to internationally recognised Ukranian territory to help Russia launch Shaheeds against Ukranian civilian targets. That makes Iran part of the invasion, and it also means that the members of the Iranian government who ordered this war are war criminals. Ukraine killed at least ten Iranian Revolutionary Guards on Ukranian territory.

Jonathan - about the Afghanistan exit. Trump set up the conditions where the exit was difficult. Trump released many Afghan terrorists (who then attacked as the US was trying to withdraw). Trump also closed all but ONE US air base. This was what Biden was dealing with. So, if you want to know why that was "botched", it's due to trump's appeasing of autocrats and his incompetence.

The United Nations will always be toothless by definition because of its composition. As for NATO, before the Russian Invasion in 2022 many people in the West in positions of power were living in a Fukuyama fantasyland, questioning if NATO had a purpose anymore. Even the Russian invasion in 2014 didn't shake them out of their comfortable belief in a peaceful Europe. Now we know how wrong they were. In the past the role of leadership of NATO has been taken up by the United States because it was in their interest. That may no longer be the case, particularly if Trump wins. It is not a good situation.

They are awake wide awake but paralised by fear that is all. They can't even speak muted by fear to tell their mainly carefree population (not you and me) that action therefore taxmoney and sacrefices are needed. The problem of awareness is not a problem of our politicians but of the majority of the people that elected them into office. Don't forget that there are as many supporters pro Russia (unbelievable but true) then there are people pro Ukraine like you and me and the largest part does not care (not my war they think) or isn't aware.. Imagine if you were a politician and you want to get reelected what would you do and you know that telling the truth to the people means political suicide? just ask Macron That is what is really going on. Our politicians gamble on the fact that Russian society will collapse economically thanks to the sanctions and the resistance of Ukraine. They hope that the Russians will retreat volunteerly from Ukraine because they get tired of the war eventually. THey still hope no significant extra efford from western side is needed. This will turn out to be delusional. Hope is just delayed dissapointment. They know WW3 has started but hope rather then believe somebody else can win that war (Ukraine) for them and then the old normal will return as if the whole nightmare never happened. Politicians aren't fools they are cowards.

However, the lack of response , delayed deliveries, drip feeding of equipment , constant refusals for next level of equipment, all too little too late - has done nothing to change my mind. There are a few countries , groups and individuals who have worked very hard in support of Ukraine. But if there are puppet masters at play the people will find out. Not only that. The entire theft of Crimea was greenlighted in 2013 when the US didn't enforce our "red line" when Assad used chemical weapons. Assad was weak and we could've finished off him and his forces within a month. ISIS would've been prevented as well or at least as we knew of it in 2014.

It goes a long way over there. You do great work my friend. It kills me to see how America is pimping itself to Israel while Ukraine gets treated like a 2nd rate group which is hardly what it is. There not even comparable yet we aid them why its the money the House and congress get. Ukraine needs to get people into public office into America who backs Ukraine.

It could be Russian desperation but it's still thousands more guns pointed at Ukraine and we don't know how many soldiers N.Korea are willing to send. To be fair though I learned about this via mainstream media so I am not sure where the idea came from that this is being ignored.

It is not the major front page news that it should be. The North Korean invasion is a small side note in the oldstream news media that I have seen. So in the broader sense Jonathan is correct, it is so small it hardly exists.
@StangerStrange

@@Average-AL The world is pretty wild right now though. You have the carnage of the Israel conflict happening, in the past few days China performed yet another provocative "war game". I also think no matter what people naturally grow immune to war. This could be seen as a failing but in reality, it's a way people cope with the horrors around them. News media feel the need to have fresh stories. I just don't know how you keep an audience engaged for over two years. It is actually a complicated issue.
@Average-AL
@Average-AL 22 сағат бұрын
@@StangerStrange Sadly I don't think it is very complicated. People are people. 99% just want to live a comfortable life and if making the right thing is uncomfortable they prefer to stick their head in the sand. I noticed that the consensus at the coffee tables at work have shifted from all in support for Ukraine to - it is costing us too much...

@@StangerStrange the transsiberia railway is heavily overloaded just right now, mostly due to the logistics issues caused by their "svo". It takes a long route from the NK to reach the European part of Russia, so it might prove to be rather troublesome for the north koreans to supply their units or to send new ones.

You should see the positive things about this conflict and North Koreans helping Russia. North korea sent troops because Russia lost more men than expected. NATO would not follow Putin's terms and Poland might send troops to help Ukraine. NATO's goal is to wait until Russia is weak. Russia can't keep fighting longer because of sanctions. South Korea might send troops to Ukraine and escalate the conflict between the two Koreas. That's why Kim blew up his own roads on the Korean border. Also North Korean help is a waste of men because most of them prefer to deflect to the west than dying for Putin and Kim. Russia is the loser here not Ukraine.
