It was more likely a Mediterranean recluse, as the brown recluse is not found outside of the Southern U.S. Same venom though.

I got bit by a large female black widow three times in one incident. It was not pretty. I know what she's going through and it literally cut off my daily routine and caused me to go through a lot of pain and nerve issues. After eight months I went to my doctor and told him I'm just tired of being messed up and he gave me one shot and in five minutes the pain went away and I started to get better. Spider venom is not a good thing but there are some anti-venom shots that will work quite well. His response was, "why did you wait so long?" However, my anti-bodies are quite good now.

Not to be that guy, but your situation is a lot different. Black widow venom affects the nervous system, it doesn't eat away your flesh like the necrotizing venom of a brown recluse does.
