As a Lithuanian I feel very torn about this acknowledgement. The reason is that this man is last or close to that in the public confidence rankings as of November 2024, which means that Lithuania hates him. Our president Nausėda despises this man and our parliamentary elections campaign was pretty much about who's gonna criticise the party this man led more, that's it. The ones who denegrated this man and his colleagues the most, won big. I personally find him the best politician of the past parliamentary cycle and the party he led, despite me having many disagreement with them, did a brilliant job, all things considered. But thing is, Lithuania, despite our insane democratic and economic progress since the nineties, is full of ressentiment, even among young people, and Landsbergis and people like him, the party he led are the scapegoats. Furthermore, we are highly susceptible to post-truth populism. Democracy is fracturing all over the Western world due to the same reason. Situation in Lithuania is not as bad as in some other democratic (or formerly democratic - like Hungary) Western states, but it's pretty bad, to be frank.

Biden and Sullivan are the proximate problem, but, to my mind, Pooti was encouraged by Obama's timidity.

You're so great, I told my oh about this almost 2 days before it was reported on his BBC news. He doesn't ever believe until confirmed 😂 I'm the breaking news in my house because of you. 😊 And I agree, all acts of war.

The US has provided about 300 M2 Bradley IFV's and 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine and these were provided after years of delay and many refusals. This is an important example of a pathetically small quantity of desperately needed weapons that have been provided to Ukraine and this policy failure increases the risk of a wider war by Russia against NATO - a wider war that could cost trillions of dollars, hundreds of thousands or even millions of lives and could easily escalate to limited or unlimited nuclear war. Even a more limited war by Russia with NATO would still be far more costly than adequately arming Ukraine. The only viable path forward is for Ukraine to liberate all of it's occupied territories and given Ukraine's personnel constraints Ukraine must build up and be provided with a superior conventional armed forces that can prevail. Ukraine is likely inflicting three time the number of casualties upon Russia's armed forces as Ukraine itself is suffering but unfortunately this is not a sufficient path to victory. The frontlines must advance in Russia's direction and as rapidly as possible. Thanks for this enlightening interview of Lithuania's former foreign minister - Gabrielius Landsbergis.

Jonathan, yeah i agree that PooTin's confidence is unnerving, BUT keep in mind how the psychopath's mind works, and how the more-eastern mind's pride works, i.e saving face. It's like an actor. This is also seen in men like Soloyov (tv guy) who flipped from being very normal/reasonable to a psychopath within a few years. The artificial nature of some russian personalities is absolutely breath-taking. So i would not be too bothered at this point by PooTin's confidence. It doesn't really mean he's confident in the sense that we think of it.

Most of russian population is psychopatic, its not correct to state that single person caused all this, every russian is as respomsible as putin.

Ah yes, Lansbergis... one of the most hated families in lithuania by russian supporters, yet increadibly important in our foreign relations and our fight for freedom

I agree with Mearsheimer, Negotiations are pointless, the outcome will be decided on the battlefield,he said. Stop appeasement and arm Ukraine to win.

So mearsheimer made a total turn. How he came to that ?
@nikolagrmusa34352 күн бұрын
Easy, he is a realist and pro west, so he commented that Russ wont accept any terms because the west wont give anything that is meaningful for Russ, even if they could. So it will be solved on the battlefield. So he didn't change anything about hes position.

I have friends in Kharkiv, they fight for future generations. They fight for the desire to own their own businesses and have looked to the west for generations. The slurs of Nazism, the fact that the west promised to keep peace and has stopped them from retaliation has broken their hearts

What’s missing is the fact that an agreement that no more NATO expansion could resolve the conflict or at least bring about an armistice. Secondly, Russia with China’s help can prolong the conflict indefinitely. The Russians have the advanced know how and the resources to sustain the conflict whereas Europe does not. Both speakers tap dance around this “elephant in the room”.
