Now, I have been going to the shop for some decades and I have never heard a stylist express hair care techniques with the level of passion this woman has expressed.

I like the hard presses I use to get from my stylist from 5 yrs old to age 16. She used pressing grease, oil, or grease. When I say hard I don't mean crunchy or feel hard it was soft & silky but not the feather weight feel. It was beautiful. I need to find me a local stylist who knows how to do it. She knew that pressing combs temperature like the back of her hand. After she pressed 95 percent of my hair she would take the comb and get my Knicks and crannies. If I wouldn't get it curled she said she really wanted to get every bit straight with the comb because my hair wouldn't get the extra heat from the curlers. She would put my hair through the teeth then turn the comb over & would make those curlers talk jack. You did a nice press on your clients hair.

That’s exactly what I do to this day. I went to beauty school back in The 80s and they didn’t teach as that. I learned that from watching old school beauticians before me. I don’t practice as a professional anymore but those skills come in here and when it comes time to my friends, family and especially grandkids.

I have been natural for years. But I miss the press and curl with hot comb. My hair would last until it was time for the next press and curl. Not oil needed and looked just like it has been relaxed. And your client's hair is beautiful.

Me too. I've gotten my hair pressed all my life (Im 52). Always had beauticians that did not load my hair with grease. People have always assumed I have a relaxer and are surprised when I tell them I get it pressed. Pressing with a pressing comb is truly an art/skill. I hope it is not lost over time. Unfortunately, a lot of modern/younger stylist do not know how to properly use a pressing comb due to the invention of the flat iron. As the stylist stated in the video, it's not just pulling the pressing comb through the hair, it's the back of the comb that gets the hair straight. And, you have to hold the hair taught with one hand while pressing the hair with the back of the comb and pulling in the opposite direction. I do not know why some stylist charge $125-$200 for what is now called a silk press when just 3 years ago in my area I was paying $55 to get my hair washed, conditioned and pressed. And, my stylists that use pressing combs know how to get my edges straight.

Girrrrl you taught us how to silk press and taught a life lesson at the same time when you mentioned the foundation n starting off right. You’re a great teacher. You should be hired to professionally speak at hair conventions or at least orientation for new stylist….something lol! Thank you, my daughters have thick long hair n you’ve made the process so much easier for me. Take care!!

Wondering why she didn't use the press and come from root to tip the way they did back in the day. That's what I thought I was clicking on to see someone finally do it

I appreciate you saying that you don't need a lot of products. I'm going to try design essentials line, I'm currently using silk elements olive heat protection spray. Yes I have my straighten comb and flat iron, a must in my house

Why not just press all the way down and don't bother with the flat iron?
@cecilywyatt4 жыл бұрын
It’s a personal preference for me. I went to Dudley beauty college in Chicago and was taught to press it to the end. However, the hair doesn’t get as silky that way. This is why they had to use pressing creams. In my 19 years of being a stylist this way produces a much smoother result and also cuts my work in half!

I miss my hot comb stylist. She used a handkerchief that she would put under the hair and run it down with the comb. Some woman who was upset because my stylist was a kitchen hair dresser unlicensed. So I had to go to her. Once was enough. I had to sneak around to go to my favorite Lady. Or my dad would pick her up. People were thinking they had something going on.
