I think I understand what she's saying. All the things we do to keep our hair straight : wrapping, tying it down super tight, tight ponytails, avoiding water (moisture), more heat causes problems. Most folks dont avoid moisture for 30 days for their curls, but starve straight hair for moisture for a long as possible.

Please, pay no attention to what she said regarding heat in this video. Her statements - "Don't leave your hair straight for three weeks because it'll be trained to be straight," and "You'll have a little bit of heat damage even if you don't apply heat to it after straightening it" - are not true. "Adding constant heat to the hair, especially without proper preparation, can damage the hair," is what she meant to say. The results came out lovely in the end.

I'm inclined to believe hair can be "damaged" by being kept straight. I wear my hair in a slicked back bun most days and when I want to wear it out and curly, the front part wants to stay straight. Of course I've been wearing this ponytail for 20+ years, but still... 😄

No. That is mechanical damage caused by pulling the hair. It's the tension that caused your hair to stay straight. Straightening your hair and leaving it down would not have the same results, unless there was heat damage.

Correct. Your hair texture changes when you do mechanical manipulatiom just as the person said. If you put it in a tight style or even if you have braids in for a while, over time your hair texture will loosen. It'll be more periodically. The longer the style stays the looser the texture starts to become (slow gradual pace ofc). Also it depends on your hair type and texture, more resilience and care is less likely to succumb to the change esp if you leave it alone outside of protective hair styling. But it's also the hair stretching that allows your hair to become more lengthy as well and stimulate that scalp growth, which is why braids are a must for a lot of people who have trouble doing their hair in regards to length retention and growth progress.

Looking good, but I do wish we would go back to allowing our hair to dry naturally and return to that good old fashion pressing comb. Even if we didn't do the pressing comb, I do wish we would miss the drying of our hair from wet to dry - I just think it's too damaging. Wash it one day - straighten it, the next day.

ummm your hair can only remain straight if you chemically change the bonds or damage them for excessive heat usage. I keep my hair straight for up to 6 weeks with wrapping or rollers. As long you don't reapply heat you are good.
