If you go back to Kolsay Lake, I would recommend taking a horseback ride to the higher Kolsay-2 lake (there are three lakes in that valley). It is much more remote and wild than the lower lake. The ride to the higher lake(s) and back is also quite a sight.

If you can manage, you should visit Altyn Emel, it's a national park that has a singing dune. The dune produces sound when wind is blowing on it.

I was just scrolling KZbin and found you guys, and quickly watched every video about Kazakhstan. It is refreshing to see a couple that spread positivity and respect towards to people, especially culture. You are vegetarians, but at the same time wasn’t afraid when you saw some sides of our culture(I mean hunting with eagles and etc), and I think that’s pretty cool. The ara some great small hiking track available just from the city - go to Kok Zhailau or Butakovsky fall it’s just couple hours tracks - u can drink coffee there in the morning and be back at town by lunch. I think such places are the best feature of living in Almaty
