If you can manage, you should visit Altyn Emel, it's a national park that has a singing dune. The dune produces sound when wind is blowing on it.

If you go back to Kolsay Lake, I would recommend taking a horseback ride to the higher Kolsay-2 lake (there are three lakes in that valley). It is much more remote and wild than the lower lake. The ride to the higher lake(s) and back is also quite a sight.

The ara some great small hiking track available just from the city - go to Kok Zhailau or Butakovsky fall it’s just couple hours tracks - u can drink coffee there in the morning and be back at town by lunch. I think such places are the best feature of living in Almaty
