is there any way to make a flat wash without getting the darker edge around it?

Taping the area helps but you'll always get a slightly darker area right on the edge because that's the nature of the paint.

I didn’t catch if you lightly drew a grid first to keep them uniformly spaced? I love this but think mine would be different sizes or going downhill!

I don’t think I did on this occasion, but there’s nothing to stop you if you want to draw one!
