Love it, I got mine for a hundred bucks a while ago. Too heavy for backpacking I've found but I put it behind the seat in the truck for when I come across a tree that's fallen across the dirt roads I frequent. Works like a charm.

They're great aren't they. I've had my Katana for a year and half. I think the best way to preserve them is to put power only on the pull stroke and not on the push stroke. It keeps them from bending. An old toothbrush and rubbing alcohol cleans it up nice. I try to avoid using on fresh pine. I picked mine up for $95amazon. Prices range wildly on this particular saw. Why wouldn't you notch the tree like you would with a regular chainsaw first?

Cool saw bro. Just so you know, cutting a tree at an angle will not help it fall that way. Which ever way its leaning is going to determine that. And you should always make a face cut first then make the back cut. Look up a Humboldt cut.

all jokes aside I think it'd be kinda cool if someone made a larger folding knife with that kinda lock and see how it compares to a lockback
@triumphant39
@triumphant39 7 жыл бұрын
Old comment but that's kind of the way some of the older early-modern era european folding knives worked. Some of them, though, not all, but brands like laguiole, douk douk, otter messer and etc use a lock that you press/tilt up, then let it down in the tang of the knife, which is essentially the locking mechanism on a silky saw. The main difference is that the silky lock is made with stamped components, and that type of lock can either sit against the tang of the knife, or interface with it. Either way it might be worth trying out some of those older style knives, do some shopping around and research first before you buy though.

Next time once Tactical gets 1/2 way through, he should change his cut. Move 90° to continue cutting the tree down. ...B... A....C ...D... Start a A. Cut across to the B/D point. Then move your body to the A position. Then start cutting the D towards the B since its smaller now. Also would be wise to insert a wooden wedge to keep the tree from pinching the blade at various spots...
@thebrizzy
