Sills Argo Aurora 950 top speed test

Since our last post, everyone has asked me..”What’s the top speed of this machine?”.. Well, there’s a lot of information out there on the web, but here it is, right from the guys who use these things everyday!.. This brand new Aurora 950 40hp machine is brand new and stock. Regardless of what anyone says, this is the top speed we got out of the machine according to the display. If you listen, you can hear the engine bouncing off the rev limiter a couple times. This tells me we are hitting the max RPM. Without changing any clutching, this is what you can expect from a 2019 Aurora 950

I will clear up a little bit of confusion here Argo as of lately is offering 2 different gear ratios the 8.1 and 6.2 and this number can be found stamped on the transmission The 8.1 is the HT - high torque transmission and in the newer Aurora 950sx will go 35 km/h The 6.2 is the ST - Standard torque transmission and in the newer Aurora 950 sx will go 45 km/h

Nice Tried that with tracks on it? that was 46kph right? so whats that in mph? 28 or so? If they could make one that can do 45mph and be built to do proper work they would have one hell of a farm/ranch vehicle. Normally 20 something mph is plenty but if you have a real long driveway or need to take a road to get to another pasture or whatever a bit more speed is always nice.

They actually made an Argo SS (supersport) back in the 70s with a 440 cc 2 stroke with about 48 HP that would go 45-50 mph!!!

I think those higher speeds would be dangerous without a suspension

None do. this is their fastest one at 28mph apparently.

I just watched a review on Dirt Trax tv on youtube. They said the Aurora 950 Sx model will reach speeds above 40.

@@DEDBRD-di4yj Oh yeah i saw that and i am pretty sure hes wrong. Listen to this video at 1:17 he says well we got 46 kilometers per hour. And they showed the speedo in this. the argo website lists the max speed with the standard transmission at 25mph 40kph and 20mph 32kph with the HT trans. The video here at max speed dosnt look like he was doing 46mph it looks like mid 20s fast bicycle speed. That other video i think they just misspoke when they said miles per hour instead of kilometers per hour. But yeah i agree with you. If it really did 45mph it would be WAY better. That brings it up into the range of practical utv use for large farms. Can get where your going across smooth grass or gravel roads quickly and still be able to go through the nasty stuff much slower. But honestly they are simple machines. They use common engines that are used in commercial mowers and things like that. You can make them a bit faster if you really wanted. Raise the governor on the engine a few hundred rpm would be pretty safe. Then change out sprockets in the chain drive system. Might need to get some machined or maybe find some off the shelf for another application. But you would gain top end speed at the cost of low end torque. But realistically with those changes you might get another 4-8mph or so before you put too much stress on the engine or transmission. I wouldnt want to do that to a machine i just spent a fortune on. They should make a 3 speed transmission.
