NOBODY who works on upright silo's can fear heights. I twice walked around the top of a small 45' silo, but I wasn't as wise as I think I am now! 😂

The silo build is very interesting. Those workers do a lot of rigging with each jump. And a lot of rebar! A time lapse of a jump would be cool. Cheers 🇨🇦

Silo building brings back memories, spent summer on dairy farm that had a silo built. 1973 or 74. Star silo. They would get 3 "rings" poured in a day. Great video and keep up the great work, everyone depends on farmers.

good morning young man I have always been impressed with your work ethic and the way you conduct yourself as the world has a bunch of young people that just prefer to sit on the couch and watch TV. I am entertained and proud to watch a young man like you work hard since I have worked hard, my whole life I have since retired, I wish you nothing but success and your new house is beautiful and stay healthy. Thank you for this video and all the others and anxiously awaiting the next one.

Hey Eric! We use that same footpath you just got in our farm in Lebanon, we really like it and don’t see a whole lot of sore feet and foot issues, hopefully it works out for you too! Good luck on the silo build!

That is pretty cool to see how those silos are built. You know they have to stand behind their work as their lives literally depend on what they poured the day before. How do they insure they are going up perfectly straight? One or two degrees at the bottom could translate to a lot at the top.😮

I loved you taking care of the big girl. We had one that always had the last stall in the parlor because she didn't fit the stalls and we didn't shut the back gate on her. Weighed just under 2200#'s when we finally had to sell her. If she had a trunk in her rear, she would have been a sedan, or a trunk in her front an elephant. I love the big Holsteins!

Yes, the bottom starting lift of concrete HAS to be “level, square, and plumb” so that you don’t end up with a “Leaning tower of Silage…” at the top.

That's the first vertical/upright silo I've seen built in a long time.
@MrSteub3 ай бұрын
Very possibly the first upright silo poured in the last 30 years. What I have grown to know about farming is that everyone has their opinions and mine isn’t worth more than anyone else’s but upright silos have a lot of problems. First they are dangerous, if you have a clogged chute or the unloaded breaks you at climbing to the top where there is plenty of obvious problems. Second, feed is last in and first out and that feed is least compacted with less fermentation time. And one of my favorites… they are always built in places that interfere with expanding the barn. I can understand building them for a vector system because it can control the unloader, conveyors and other associated equipment but I don’t think you will ever convince me that a vertical silo is a better investment than a feed bunk and a kitchen with a feed grabber.
@RealJohnWayne3 ай бұрын

My Cousin has a dairy farm in michigan. They have them blue silo 80-90 feet tall. The problem is to go from the top of one silo to the top of the next, we got to climb down one and all the way back up the other. It would of been nice to have a bridge at the top from one to the next one. Will yours have a bridge to connect the tops together?

If you lift the boom on the bobcat when you are driving in to get a bucket full and tilt the bucket down all tyres get traction rather than relying on just the back wheels which end up spinning as the front tyres are off the ground
