Obviously (well, to me anyway), figuring out the plot isn't going to reveal anything absolute without the WoG (Word of God, i.e. stuff straight from the developers). Recently, just by coincidence, I've been reading through a bunch of books on stuff like Atlantic, Ys, and similar "sunken land" myths (GURPS Atlantis has been my go-to resource), so here's my personal analysis: -There once was a great land, ruled by the deerheads. -The land of the deerheads delved into magic as well as machinery. Or perhaps science that might as well be magic, ala psionics. -As they were rising in greatness, the waters rose, and engulfed the deerheads. This process was gradual but inevitable, giving them plenty of time to develop statues indicating their adoption of diving equipment. As the seas rose, their powers faded, likely engulfed and absorbed by terrible creatures from the depths, the Goliaths, which stole the fundamental energies needed by their life-giving city engines. -At some point, the deerheads decided to put the majority of their people into a state of suspended animation, to await an awakening when the Goliaths could be defeated, and the power they stole restored. -A very few members of the deerheads, likely those mystics with the strongest psionic powers, chained themselves to the bottom in a state of deep meditation, in hopes of attaining the final leap to power that would allow them to finally challenge the Goliaths. -Our protagonist was the first to achieve this final leap in power, and sought out the bodies of his fellow sleepers, who had likely died instead of obtaining the power they sought, to absorb the power they had attained, turning their energies toward the salvation of the deerheads. This is, of course, all strictly my personal speculation, awaiting the WoG to confirm or deny.

About the Goliaths - it's interesting that the "possession tentacle" moves from the player to the fish But always from the Goliath to the player

I don't think its so positive. Most of the bosses aren't trying to fight you except for maybe the first one . You're going into these places and murdering random animals. The final boss doesn't even fight back until you have killed both of its lamps, and the spider one dies in an especially brutal way, looking at you as you swim down to suck its life out. The way you use the fauna without care for the things is also reflected. At 3:55, you can see the crab you use to break the fan literally has children.

Gonna be honest, this game feels like a massive disappointment. The "demo" showed up to the defeat of the first Goliath, and it gave the feeling that you were going to face other gargantuan things that want to devour you, but the other Goliaths are laughably easy with the way to defeat them being painfully obvious and putting your diver in virtually zero danger. The "story" also gives off too much of the whole cryptic "too deep for you" aspect and honestly, the game just goes down hill after you beat the Moray Goliath.

Am not remembering what it was exactly, but am sure it's older than Disney's Atlantis. It was an artificial intelligence in a pyramid like shaped body, it chained an human to itself because was suffering from loneliness. Just related to the 'abyssal mecha-monster'. Am not really getting why the Kraken has a tree over itself or what the final Goliath should be. While the giant gulper eel is based on Sea Dragons(would have liked to see it swim freely btw). The glowing worms are very much like the brain eating ones in Limbo, and the little slalom to free one of them is basically Badland(Flappy Birds styled like Limbo).

The layout, game style, artwork, basically everything in this game is exactly like the game GRIS. Except this one is black and white and horror. At first I thought it was the same developers and artist because the creatures in this game are exactly like one deep water level from GRIS. The developers from SILT must have gotten the majority of their inspo from GRIS lol. But still, I love the play style, but it’s basically a horror black and white version of GRIS. This setting is honestly wasted in a puzzle game, or at least a puzzle game like this. The game wants you to feel like you're facing ancient creatures of unforetold power... ! Which of course you beat by making them munch on rocks or eat gone-bad fishies. The design is fine but the lore (the observable lore that is) has zero cohesion: Titanic beasts, laughable weaknesses, anthro land-animal statues, possesion mechanics. What was this even meant to be about?? A question both for gameplay and in-game lore. Disappointing, to say the least.
