I have one of these. paid 40 bucks, put in a new 8950 and tuned up checked out. works great after a couple contacts it went back in its box for storage. You are absolutely correct about the am settings.

once in a while you do hear these radio transmitting on the cb bands ,both am and ssb , I just got one from a older operator who claim it do work on AM and SSB ,THIS Will be my rebuild for 2016

Thank you for your very well done videos. I am new to the hobby and I have set up my ham shack. I am in school majoring in electronics technology. This summer I will take the Ham license exam. I just ordered one. If it is modified, or if I do it myself, do you need to switch to the 27.0 Receive side to mess with 11 meters (TX). I am a ham, so it is mainly for learning about the hardware. General Class.

I was given one of these radios a long time ago, couldn't use it as I dont have a Ham license, nor did I have a Mic for it. ended up selling it because I didn't have the room where I moved.

like your demonstration of a properly modulated am wave, on a scope and on a receiver. when you were over modulated I could hear it,and it sounded like the ops ch6 or 27.025am,with their 30kw worth of over modulated am that exceeds the carrier. now you explained that for 100% modulation that the carrier needs to be 25% of the max capability of the radio. now I have set my radios so that the carrier was around, 1/5 to1/6 or their about,with the radio going to a well calibrated pep watt meter in to a 50 ohm lode. and it sounded fine on a communications receiver like your 100% modulated signal but with more punch. why is that? I guess that is why so meany people think it should swing like crazy? well I would like you to make a video about the relation of carrier to peak readings on a scope and receiver and put the "it should swing like crazy "to rest. well good DX and take care

i recently bought a Siltronicx 1011d I thought I could use alternating current from the wall to power it. The rear panel has two outlets which are marked 117 volts.. I cannot find a plug to put on a line cord for these plugs. Does anyone know where to buy such a plug.

Can it be converted to 11 meter TX ? Also can it be converted to 11m SSB?

Yes, very easily, and SSB will work as well then. Siltronix actually sold this rig primarily for the 11 meter crowd, but to avoid problems with the FCC they blocked the transmitter for operation on 11 meter, for the user to open up themselves after purchase. Which is a simple mod. You might recognize this as the same sales strategy that so many Far-East suppliers of "10 meter" radio's are doing today. At the time, the mother company, Swan (a well known manufacturer of HF ham equipment in those days), got a lot of flak from the ham community for doing this as I remember. But these are actually good radios, nice clean signals without splatter and good harmonic suppression. A CB-er can therefore do no harm to anyone with this radio.
