After losing to the Seattle Seahawks twice during the 1983 regular season, the Oakland Raiders were not about to let that happen a third time with a Super Bowl appearance on the line.

It's a cliche most of the time, but the 83 Raiders are a great example of a team that 'switched gears' in the playoffs. They went 12-4, but after their 4-0 start, a lot of those wins were fairly close (vs Denver, vs KC, at Buffalo, at KC). But once the playoffs started...they were a completely different team. Dominating Pittsburgh and Seattle is one thing, but Washington had gone 31-3 in its previous 34 games, had set the NFL record for points, and had beaten the Raiders in the regular season. And they didn't look like they belonged on the same field in Super Bowl XVIII. Al Davis' last great masterwork as architect of the Silver & Black.

It was only fitting the Raiders beat the Seahawks in the AFC Championship that year. It erased those 2 regular season losses. Seattle was always a pain in the ass to the Raiders during those years. I know that going into 1990 they were the only team to have a franchise history winning record against them. How I wished Largent could have been a Raider taking over after Bilitnekoff retired. But they had Christensen who was more than an ample replacement for Dave Casper. Why Todd didn't get a nod for HOF I don't know. 5 time pro-bowler, 4 time all-pro. Caught more passes from 1983-86 than anyone in the NFL period, let alone for a tight end.

He was running for his life all day and in the regular season they ran the ball really well with Warner who was one of the best HBs in the NFL. They couldn't run at all they swarmed Warner every time he got the ball. It's a shame Warner had a serious knee injury and was never the same back after that he would have been in the HOF.

Apart from Allen, these Raiders had no superstars, but they were so well coached, and every unit (especially that amazing secondary) worked well together. They did all the little things right, and that's what ended up making the difference.

The Seahawks were just happy to be here and didn't play hard. When they cared they kicked the Raiders' asses twice during the regular season.

The Raiders played 2 sloppy games in the regular season when focused they were a much better team and proved it the Hawks had like 84 yards total offense into the 4th quarter.

Good year and one of the teams was pretty good as a pick but WRONG game IMO. The AFC Divisional between Seattle and Miami would've been a better pick as everyone and their mother thought the Dolphins were going to steamroll over the 'hawks but the combination of wet muddy weather and the Grund Chuck offense helped Seattle to pull off the upset. As for this game, the Raidahs were just too much. It's a shame that Marcus Allen and Al Davis couldn't get along. If there was a guy who deserved to play his entire career with one organization it's Marcus. I guess the one positive is that the years he hardly played allowed him to prolong his career with the Chiefs.

Jpgoeagles no genius. Bigger people like we have today didn't exist back then. We are creating them through diet and focused workout and muscle building.
