Silver off contactor's and circuit breakers

The silver removed from contactor's and circuit breakers with just a map gas torch.. A oops delete of the finger.. Also a note: These pieces of silver are undergoing refining.. I've sent them off to Prospector's Gold and Gem In Co.. Just waiting on the return....

@@texas_germanic7073 I suggest you send off that silver to a refinery. That torch will heat the silver but not melt it. Been there, it will get red hot but takes a while to melt.. get the torch and give it a try. 😇

how do you separate the silver contacts from the metals they're mounted on? and where do you find the circuit breakers? Nice job :)

use a heat source like a mapp gas torch or propane. I found circuit breakers at second hand stores, flee market. After what I bought it, you pay more for what you get out. If you can get the breakers for next to nothing or for nothing(trashed) then its worth it.

+Green Zombie if you do have a lot to take apart find a awl and hammer. Instead of breaking/smashing the breakers apart there are rivets, find the stare looking end place the awl and hammer it out. it works well and little mess.

I've got a drill press for getting through the rivets, I've also done the towel and smash but I like power tools a lot more LoL Thanks for all the help :)

Nice collection you have here! I have a question for you... Many parts in circuit breakers are silver plated copper. Are they worth saving or should i just take off the actual contacts on them? Thank you

The parts.. Yes there plated.. Plated copper and plated brass. Just put them in a scrap pile for brass.. But the bigger copper in another pile..

Yes it is worth selling of the plated copper and brass.. It all adds up.. Keep a magnet handy too to get the steel out...

Its a labor of love.. It does take a lot of the silver bits to add up to pure .999 silver..

Well to put it this way take off the contact points put them aside. Sell off the copper plate brass plate.. If you can refine the silver your self then good.. More for your self ,taking out that middle man.. My self I wanted to refine the silver my self ,but no nitric acid. So I sent these bits off to get refined and I got a 10 oz bar of silver.. It did take a lot of those little bits to add up.. Its not a get rick quick deal..

A harbor freight torch. With mapp gass. And a old flat head screw driver.

it just might be. some small switches don't always have silver. get a good look at the color that fell out. set it aside for safe keeping.
