RIP Stan Lee. Your imagination took many of us on a fantastic journey. It made me challenge what is possible and dream of a better future.

Jack is a master for creating the appearance of characters. Stan Lee gave them life and personality. Legends indeed.

Stan's run on the first Surfer solo-series comes off as rather heavy-handed by today's standards, but you can really feel how unique and different the character was at the time.

Thank u Stan Lee..thank u for helping me understand in myself that.. its OK for me to be SPECIAL, DIFFERENT . Until marvel comics came along. I felt very much isolated and odd as well as alone. I have and always will miss you. REST IN PEACE....

I got into the Silver Surfer in the early 90s he was my cousins favorite character and he would let me read his Surfer comics, and I almost instantly loved the character. Through the 80s and 90s the Silver Surfer had a great duo on it writer Ron Marz and artist Ron Lim. It always had good stories and good art but for some reason the book never sold too well. Wizard magazine would come out and it would show the most popular bought comics out of 100 I think and Silver Surfer was always near the bottom for some reason.

Dr. Manhattan was an original variation of Captain Atom by Alan Moore, yet I can't help but wonder if he also took inspiration for the character from Silver Surfer. Their design and introspective, mild-mannered, depressed yet uncertain godliness are so similar.

Jim Starlin is, along with Jack Kirby, my fave. Ron Lim was pretty amazing as a stylist, too, though his work couldn't affect me emotionally as could the other two. I add him, because he never had an inker who could flesh out his drawings like Joe Sinnott did for Jack. If so, those early Silver Surfer series comics (the eponymous series, not the FF sagas) would have combined the three big elements: Storyline, Concept, and Execution, and he'd be rated higher. My encounter with the Silver Surfer spawned a lifelong application to fantasy and heroic art. I ain't too bad myself, now that I've outlived most of my contemporaries. ;-)

By far one of my first super hero's I remember the first episode i saw at the time Galactus was in the back ground in the episode. i remember the silver surfer was actually black which was totally unheard of at the time the fact that he came from another planet really stayed with me,his views also stayed with me the fact that he was an outsider to this planet an could see what was wrong in society..

Stan Lee created the Marvel Method,but now doesn't seem to like it that his artists contributed so much to the comics he scripted.He should be honest about it all.

This is a prime example of the creation of the marvel universe between jack kirby and stan lee is 60/40 in favor of jack except of course spider-man even though jack drew the first images of spider-man but stan lee went with dikto but still used jack's original art work for the cover of amazing fantasy.

I really like the Norrin Radd origin story. but there’s something really cool about the initial appearance of the Silver Surfer origin unknown, a herald turned, noble like a travelling monk mixed with a bit of betrayed and disillusioned ronin samurai. A noble unwilling hero so much so that unlike other hero’s his power and his limits if any are a mystery. Yeah make a movie and do him justice unlike the last fantastic four feature.

"He was their Joe Satriani" wtf is this guy taking about? Do we even know whether there's album coverhad anything to do with the silver surfer? The name of the album is "surfing with an alien" and it came out way after the period in which there referring to 20yrs or so! I was a wee lad as well and i thought Kirby's art was awesome really dug his tech renderings and his intricacies is such as the art in Thor's and others were an invite to the imagination, no one does it better. At times hearing Stan lee talk it makes one wonder how he came up with the the stories and beautiful poetry of words contained in those comics? He doesn't come off as complex and as deep a thinker as i would have expected. Kirby seems to be much more out there. Earth the planet we all live ON but most live IN a box. Btw always thought Stan looked like the real dr. Strange.

@ammovette8 жыл бұрын
Not true, not true at all. he can recreate his board at anytime. that's how he escaped earth. Yes, he surfs with it, but it is an extension of himself, not a source of his power. He can dissolve or recreate his board at anytime.
@JOJO-sn5zo8 жыл бұрын
Cornelius Ennis that's not true, I think u watch to much fantastic rise of the surfer, because in the comics if he gets off his board he still has his cosmic powers, it's not like the movie were he gets off his board and then he's about to die or something stupid like that, but yea read more comics

Reboots? you mean amazing spider-man? that movie property does not belong to marvel, Sony has those rights, that's because they will keep making spider-man movies one after the other, if they don't and there is 5 years of no spidey action on the big screen, those righs go back to marvel.. so hang tight the spidey movies will get worse after every other remake / reboot, because sony doesn't want to lose those rights..

No mention of Jack Kirby ? ? He designed the Surfer. Stan Lee, as good as he was, just put words to Kirby's storyboards. The man created the bulk of what we know today as the marvel universe& never even was compensated for it. He even created the New Gods and Darksied for D.C. Lee just barely mentions him in this interviem. Shame on you Stan Lee.

Everyone wants a Silver Surfer movie but I say no. First of all you're never going to match the visuals of Jack Kirby's art, it'll look painfully drab in comparison. And second, it'd be the most politically heavy handed piece of media ever made since... modern Marvel comics.
