Always look forward to these "things were better in the past" BS. Linda was wonderful and one of the handful of the greatest American singers of all time. But, there are plenty of fantastic singers nowadays. You just have to get rid of your Sony walkman and do a bit of exploring. You would be surprised at what you will find even here on KZbin.

Linda was the complete package. Wide ranging voice. Great body. Great legs. Big eyes. Beautiful face. My favorite female singer of all time.
@pwk224 жыл бұрын
I differ. She didn't write melodies or lyrics. She didn't play an instrument (tambourine doesn't count). She didn't arrange. She didn't produce. She didn't dance, this video notwithstanding. She is one of my all-time favorites, but I don't think it's accurate to call her "the complete package".
@barneydunn84584 жыл бұрын
@@pwk22 Ronstadt always "arranged" her music and her bands we're devoted because of her " remarkable ears as well as her voice". In fact many of the vocal arrangements and harmonies from Neil Young albums to her TRIO sessions were arranged by Linda. She played guitar and fiddle occasionally but her instrument is a Stradivarius quality voice that she played to Divine perfection.
@pwk224 жыл бұрын
@@barneydunn8458 That's the first I've heard about the arranging. I've seen her holding a guitar, but she doesn't regularly play it on albums or concert. She's great, but I stand by my "complete package" statement, relative to a, for instance, Brian Wilson or even a Sheryl Crow.

The first time I heard her voice was on my car radio in downtown Houston late one night as she sang "Different Drum". I was so stunned I immediately turned the wrong way down a one-way street. The person next to me asked, "You know we're going the wrong way on a one-way street, right?" In that moment I knew I would always have a crush on that voice on the radio. I'll turn 77 this year and the feeling is as strong as ever.

@martincox73544 жыл бұрын
I’m afraid you have all this wrong. It has been proven by clinical studies at the University of Dispepsia that the act of piercing releases hidden negative energies within the body thus allowing the positive energies to exert their dominance and thereby enhancing the person’ natural abilities. In the same vein, it has been established through a widespread and independently verified survey of over 10 people that the application of a tattoo dynamically changes the personality of the wearer. Apparently, this effect is not seen with servicemen and servicewomen who largely remain unaltered. However, with everyone else, and only a rare few exceptions, the act of the tattoo plus the design of the design does seem to turn losers into winners; outsiders into insiders; the weak into the strong and the mentally challenged into experts on any subject. At least, all this is achieved into their own minds. We mustn’t also forget the very important benefit for parents of having their children’s names tattooed on them. For instance, they may have so many, with so many different partners, that they need to keep a handy record of all their names. Or, they might be, how shall we say, register low on the Dumbo Scale that they have to have a visible reminder of names in front of their eyes. However, despite all of this, the most important benefit of a person with more than a couple of tattoos is that they act as a signal for the rest of us of people who we should not waste our breath on. Here endeth the lesson.

Yes. Wholesome and sexy at one and the same time. That was Linda. She would, I guess, have been every guys dream girlfriend but could also sing "I'll be your baby tonight' like the sexiestsong on the planet. She was so pretty and sweet she could outweigh the contradictions.Mama Cass once said it was difficult for a girl singer. She could either be sweet and domestic, which meant her days as a girl singer were numbered or she could be a red hot mama. I think Cass opted for the latter. Linda> I am not so sure.

Besides being one of the top female singers, she is one of main people responsible for putting the Eagles together.

I've seen so many videos of her performances...( she didn't lip-synch, and of course, it was way before there was "auto-tune" ) and, I never heard her hit the wrong note. In fact, she performed almost every genre of music you can think of. In the early 80's she tried punk rock and it was criticized for being too polished.
@kenmizell7533 Жыл бұрын
I saw her in person during the punk rock thing, and I even had the album she put out at that time. I wasn't too fond of that style. She has even done some serious stuff, like high end Broadway stuff, and Spanish songs. An amazing voice, without close equal.

She started a musical revolution without even trying.The fusion of country and rock long outlasted the disco era and still lives today thanks to her!

Remember she knew Gram Parsons (rip) way back when. He cannot get official recognition for his contributions to Country or to Rock. The country problem is when he started the movement had had pot leaves on his Nudie suits and was known to do drugs to the Nashville crowd. He was never accepted. But Linda knew him before she knew Emmylou.

Love Linda but she’s not the only one from the 60s and 70s who was doing country rock and gave it longevity. CSNY, The Eagles, The Byrds, the list is too long to type out. She was very influential on a lot of female singers, and I saw her sing live a number of times. I liked everything she did. Saw her sing on Broadway in Pirates of Penzance too! Broke my heart when she got Parkinson’s.

@@justintime42000 Members of The Eagles we’re her back up band & she helped them get started, so she came before them, but you’re right about the others.✌️🤘👍
@justintime42000 Жыл бұрын
@@MichaelSSmith-hs5pw Yes, I knew that. The longevity of country rock artists from the time was the subject being discussed, not who came first. Mike Nesmith is an often overlooked name in this genre but he wrote Linda’s first hit two years before she recorded it and did other country rock songs before The Eagles played with Linda (“Joanne” is probably the most famous) if you want to talk about who came first.
@MichaelSSmith-hs5pw Жыл бұрын
@@justintime42000 Damn, I’m not looking to get in a pissin’ contest with ya. I just mentioned that Linda came before the Eagles, that’s all. But I am an old country rock musician, I’ve been in several country rock bands back in the day, so to play that kind of music I had to to my research & I got pretty good at it. So if you want to get into a screaming’ country rock trivia match, you’ll lose!! My level of sarcasm depends on your level of stupidity!🤪

Got to see her in Sacramento at Hugh's Stadium c.1975. The Eagles headlined the show opened by Norton Buffalo. One of the best concerts I've seen and I've seen a bunch. At 67 my children and grandchildren tease me about my age. I remind them all that means is I got to see the greatest bands ever with the original members...

70's TV pop--be careful how you photograph the performer, don't want to overly excite the viewers, and the studio audience must have a "deadman's stare" until the song is over and they can then politely applaud.
