Eating more onions and garlic in your diet helps keep the flies and mosquitoes away naturally. I had an old Warrant Officer that was in the Vietnam war and he always ate onions, onion soup, fresh garlic, and garlic salt. He told me to add that to my diet and you would not need to use repellents. Plus repellents worked against you as the enemy could smell you. Onions and garlic made you smell more like the enemy. The acids in onions and garlic leach out in your sweat and keeps the mosquitoes and flies away. I started do that when I deployed to Central and South America and it worked. Works great here in the U.S..

50/50 witch hazel and skin so soft Add a few drops of your favorite essential oils like peppermint, lemon, tea tree, spearmint, citronella. Shake well and spray it on or apply like a lotion. (Witch Hazel is cheap compared to skin so soft) Repels bugs and is good for your skin. 🤗💞

In the coastal regions in California grows the California Bay Loral. Crushing the leaves of this tree then rub the oils on your clothes, and skin if your not sensitive, will discourage biting bugs.

Nicely done ! Great information ! FYI >>> I had to go to the emergency room one evening... felt sick, sluggish, flu like ache symptoms, etc... I was in my 50's ... ER Doctor couldn't pin-point the problem. He said possibly an upper respiratory infection. Still felt bad for a couple more days until I was in the shower and noticed something inside my belly button and when I got out of the shower I felt something abnormal in the belly button recess. IT WAS A TICK...and it "the tick" was swollen up full of blood. I layed down and put Peroxide in there and let it set a few moments. The tick pulled out easily. My sickness wore off the next day. #IHATETICKS Nasty lit'l critters. TRUE STORY. ...Alan in 🇨🇱

Hello Blackie, I appreciate that you want to keep costs down. Another option is to sell your pattern to people who have the ability to make them ourselves. I actually enjoy making well designed bags. Try Sawyer Picaridin insect repellent comes in a spray or lotion…I use the lotion to keep ticks out of my body wear your clothing has openings neck face hands above your socks especially ears. Then spray your clothes with Sawyer Permethrin it last 6 weeks or six washes the stuff is great. I have a lot of deer and wildlife so we get a ton of ticks but not with the Sawyer stuff and it helps with mosquitoes and I have a fish pond. Have fun stay safe.

Biggest problem for me is the perfume or chemical smell of repellents. For allergies I have been taking Allegra for years. You can get generic over the counter these days. But the bites and stings I use to suffer for days are hardly noticeable in an hour. Even a bumblebee sting on my hand was no trouble within and hour. One thing that Kenny Salwey mentions is to pick a loose long sleeve shirt and treat it with repellent and only use it when you go in to bad mosquito country. He had some shacks in the backwaters of the Mississippi River in Wisconsin which is a really bad area for them. He traveled around wearing the shirt and when he was done he hung it up. Never washed it or wore it anywhere but in those areas. His books about being an old time river rat and growing up poor on a Wisconsin farm is a great read for anyone. He became somewhat of a conservationists in his old age. He still hunted and fished but writes and speaks at schools. I think Blackie would find him a kindred spirit. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iITFqpyYjct5itUsi=bBtG0Z5x4ELXSUY3

Hello, sir! I just wanted to say that I'd be willing to pay top dollar for one of your haversacks. If you're making a premium product, it's reasonable that I pay a premium price for it. That said, perhaps the cost would come down a bit if you shipped us the materials and had us assemble it ourselves. It would offer a little room for us to make our own modest modifications and would save your niece some time. To go even further, you could sell the assembly instructions and specific items (how to make oilcloth/waxed canvas, which zippers and snaps you recommend, etc) and have us buy exactly what we need. That would bring the number of shipments down to one; supplier to us, because you could send the instructions by email. Just riffing here. Take care out there!
