I lived in Hawaii post WWII around 1959 as a small child. I remember they either closed down the whole airport or maybe just a runway on Sunday. Anyone could bring their car out and floor it from one end and back again. I think the speed limit on the whole island was 30 and no place to go any faster. One of my oldest memories.

I did Texas speed long tube headers y-pipe and high flow cat dumped to a super 10 flow master muffler. Then had it tuned on a dyno. Crazy results love it! Sounds like I have a mild cam. Horsepower Addicts did mine here in Delaware.

Change back the gear ratio setting you've changed to back to what it was and see if it helps. My 2015 had a extremely hard shift on a diablo tuner also. I believe they all do so, if you let go the throttle just before it shifts at high rpm its shift butter smooth so that's what i did. Eventually went back stock and sold the truck to get something a bit bigger.

How many miles on your truck? If over 75k the catalytic converters may be getting restricted due to the short trips in Hawaii causing a restriction that doesn't allow the air out quick enough when you tune it. There is a technician on Facebook on the Silverado addicts page that if you either send him you ecm or one for same make, model etc. He will not only program tire size, gears etc. But he will custom program your ecm any way you want it, he is extremely affordable (like $100.) and when he receives it he ships it back like the next day do your truck is not down too long. Much better than a plug in tuner and a quarter of the price.. good luck

If you plan on doing a lot of hard pulls you are definitely going to want to invest in some good quality motor mounts. I put a set on my truck from cwf offroad and they completely stopped all the crazy engine movements. I was doing lots of pulls and have been through about 15 sets of stock motor mounts and have had no issues with loud banging or my engine smashing up and down. You will feel more vibration in the truck but it’s totally worth it to me. They run a bit high in price at 400$ for the set but like I said extremely worth it

One thing you might think about is upgrade your injectors. I just recently added a jet flo throttle body to help with better air flow. I think that the Silverado would look good with tow mirrors. I also just recently add tow mirrors to my 2018 Silverado.

Stumbled across this video looking at exhaust videos. If you haven't figured out the issues yet. Alot to do with rough shifting is caused by the TCM not getting enough miles with the tuning to learn your driving habits. It takes a little while for it to do so. As far as the pinging. With gas engine tuners, they are demanding timing out of the engine for power. Gas engines can't just turn up fuel pressure by using the tuner like diesels can so when you start adding timing to a gas engine you have to look at how much fuel it's going to require and see about if it is going to be needing bigger injectors or not. That's just my knowledge of the subject at hand. It would be cool to see what kind of performance the truck would have with the tuning installed and the bugs worked out.

I've got a 03 and I've used the superchips flashpaq and liked it but I got to try a Diablo sport predator and I can do absolutely everything with it from transmission tuning to disabling torque management. The predator really impressed me when it comes to being able to change different parameters of the engine and transmission

I’m not positive but I think these newer 5.3 motors require special spark plugs since the coils fire so hot. I changed my plugs and wires and had to get different plugs because of my engine I couldn’t just get generic plugs.

I think your truck could use some 2015 style towing mirrors. Only problem is they are hard to find a good set that'll fit. Other than that I'd do a lightbar under the tailgate, Cat-Back Exhaust (Borla S-type or Atak), and maybe bring back some of the chrome. Looks Amazing with the right accents. My 2013 with 30,000 ping'ed with the Edge Programmer on 91 tune as well. Ran the 87 tune with 91 and it was fine. Even tried new plugs, wires, and sea foam. I switched to ethanol and put the 91 tune back on it. No ping at all. Even raised redline 200 rpm. Edge has 4 levels of shift firmness and I settled in the #2 setting. I think they get a little too aggressive with the timing advance on the "Extreme 91-93" tunes. Or they are tuning with VP or other high quality fuels. I think I'll go with Black-Bear tuning some time this year after I install headers and exhaust.

Have you read the Silverado/Sierra forum? They talk alot about a 1-2 shift solenoid issue. Shifting from 2-3 is a different issue though. (That's what I struggle with). Also GM guys heavily favor the Diablo tuners. I personally have the Intune I2 and that doesn't have a permanent display but does all of the performance options as the display models do. You can also email you data logs to custom programmers like Diablew aka Lewis Eaton and he will do a great tune file for you. That's what I did on my '09 and love the power difference with 33's and extra weight. I also have the crew cab which only has the 3.42 gears.

I saw on another video that if you have an aftermarket radio you have to unhook it completely not just pull the fuse when the tuning is going on because the aftermarket radio messes with the tuner somehow. I noticed your truck has an aftermarket in it so that may have something to do with it however crazy it could be. It may just not be getting the complete tune or all the parameters correctly due to the radio not sure how exactly it works.

I had a 2010 Silverado crew cab with a 5.3L bought new. Used a Diablo sport tuner with a custom tune with around 5k miles on it and it would ping every single time at WOP. Never did get it solved.

Just pull about 2 degrees of timing out of it and try that. Im assuming you're using 93 octane or E85 because with a tune you really NEED good gas. Shitty gas like 87 can make a 5.3 ping even without a tune. So if you're using good fule id try pulling 2 to 3 degrees of timing out of it, if it still pings pull 2 more. I have experience with the Diablo for my 05 GMC and the "Diablo Tune" requires at least 93. If it still pings with good fule after you pull some timing out of it then something is definitely wrong.

Also when you modify parameters like the timing with the Diablo your ECU might need time to recognize the change, in some cases the change is noticeable right away and sometimes it needs some miles on it to learn the changes. With the Diablo its a good idea to make small changes as you go, if you modify a bunch of parameters at once its easy to screw something up and hard to diagnose because of too many changes at onec.

Check your driver's side engine mount. Chevy's are known for these to go bad. Have someone put it in drive, hold the brake, and tap the gas while watching the mount from the SIDE of the truck. You'll see the mount separate and hit the safety pin. That could be causing your thunk sound under increased acceleration. 😎✌

Tuners are used for getting the most out of mods, if no mods added then don’t go extreme. You want to get good air flow to and from the engine, so k&n airfilter, good name brand exhaust and long tube headers wouldn’t hurt, stage one cam that comes with seals only. Then tell us what you got.

Like someone else noted a lower temp thermostat would be a good idea and programming fans to kick on a little sooner. Also though, how many miles on the engine? Has this engine ever been rebuilt? If not has the timing chain itself ever been replaced/touched? It is a possibility that the timing is off a few teeth. Not enough to notice under “normal” driving conditions but only when the extra advance etc is added from the tune. Just something to think about. I hope you get it figured out!

On the 4l60e transmission the 1-2 shift Accumulator goes bad quite often causing the hard shift. If you drop the pan you’ll see It towards the back end. 3 bolts. You can buy it on amazon for less then 40$. Simple fix man!!! Nice videos btw

when you replace it you can use the 1-2 accumulator from a corvette (part number slips my mind) and it helps with a very positive shift. I did it on my 2004 I also had to replace the front slip yolk, with an upgraded one, because it would make a crazy loud "Pang" noise when leaving stop lights/signs because the were a tad too short.

My 2012 Sierra had to take it to the dealer for a couple days. They had to reprogram the trans for the terrible shift. Had a custom tune done and it fixed the shifting.

Hey brah. I live in alaska. Wish i knew when we went there in november, i would of brought a hypertech max energy programmer ive had since 08'. Was on my 08' silverado, 08' sierra denali, my 07' tahoe and now on my uncles 07' silverado. Best thing ive found that works. Only a handheld like superchips and easy to use. I know you say you hear pinging higher RPM's and i know i commented on last video of the superchips. I never mess with transmission anything when programming because the factory settings all you need unless you adding more than a 100 hp. If not all good. All you would need to change is tire settings for speedo. Plus you might need to do a transmission flush and filter change if have not yet. You did tune up and what not so not a issue with that if the truck runs fine in stock tune. Wish i lived on oahu instead of alaska to come help and see it all in person. If we make another trip out next year i can let you know. Also hit me up on facebook if anymore questions.

Did you ever figure out the clunk noise? I got the same truck but haven't driven it further than home where the battery died. Now I'm redoing all the big 3 in 0 Guage wire to eliminate the ground issues but still need to figure out how to turn off the security system lockout ugh technology sometimes sucks lolol. It's a key memory thing on and off so long for so many times on a battery charger once I'm done with the rewiring so be careful if you disconnect the battery. Might be just my luck with the security but it sucks when it gets engaged to unlock it this will be the 3rd time that I have tried once I'm done the wiring. Nice truck though too I love the look and everything you have done to it!!! Can't wait to sound deadener mine and install the new radio stock sucks no bass lololol. Have a great day!

Hey not sure if any one has commented on this but. Not sure of your mileage check your injectors and or fuel pump. Since they don’t have a filter they have almost like a paper element in them and it gunks up. I would replace the pump/ filter element in tank. And injectors.

Your transmission may be on its last leg. My 2010 was doing the same thing. I took it to the tire shop to have my new tires installed and when the guy was pulling the truck into the shop the trans gave out. Good luck to you. As for the build. My opinion do not do tow mirrors I put them on mine lasted a week and took them back off, definitely prefer the standard mirrors. Love watching your channel. Thanks for all the ideas and advice. I ended up putting the 3.5" Rough Country lift kit with new knuckles to keep the upper control arm and tie rod and in somewhat proper alignment I did not use spacers either I got the extended struts seems to be working pretty well. Was going to show pic of my truck to see what you think but it doesn't let me.

Judging by your engine bay camera I'd say you need new motor mounts for one thing and possibly a new trans mount. Wouldn't hurt to check and or replace your driveshaft u-joints.

Also your pining probably wont go away till you find someone who has HPtuners or similar who can disable your AFM, enable your power enrichment at below 5k RPM (mine is set to 900 RPM so it starts adding more fuel above that. Chevy's are known to run lean which usually results in pining under load. A good tune with a little less timing and more fuel should solve that.

Try replacing you 1-2 shift solenoid and the 2-3 solenoid while your in there. They are cheap and pretty easy to install, you gotta drop the trans pan to get to them but they are easy to get to once you drop the pan. I had violent 1-2 shifts even under moderate load and worse under head load, my 2-3 was not near as bad but still bothered me so I swapped both and my shifting issues went away. Its a common issue with silverados from 07 and up.

Great video! Now if you still have the Stock thermostat which is 207° change it to a 187°. You will also need the engine fan to be programmed to come on at 190°. My truck also pinged like your truck with the programmer. This helped to control it and the truck still has the programmer in it. Maybe it will help your truck also. Had some difficulty finding ones that were true “Wheel to Wheel” which is approx 129” long. My 2004 Silverado 1500 didn’t really need running boards. But being vertically challenged, I definitely need a step ladder for this truck! Very interested in any upgrades, especially around engine performance and later towing capabilities for hauling horses etc.

I also have a 07-13 Silverado, and with all my research; because I have a pinging sound, I found the the lifters in these engines are not the best. I have heard that if you get them replaced with aftermarket parts it can get ride of the pinging sound. These lifters are hollow to allow oil to go up them and because the width of them isn't that great, it sometimes clogs. I used an engine oil cleaner on a few oil changes (you put it in right before changing your oil and let it run for 5 min at idle) this breaks down and harden oil in your engine. It got rid of some of my pinging but not all of it. I only have a tunner for the new tire size. This is all something to look into. I just want to let you know that I am no expert on this subject but something I have been looking at.

have you checked the linkages that help you shift sometimes they get sloppy or worn out they aren't super expensive to get a new one and. if your truck is throwing any fault codes it may pick up what was happening and you should be able to get a Bluetooth obd2 reader for that on Amazon fairly cheap I got mine for Like 40 dollars.

You put in 91+ octane? If not your possibly getting spark knock, so possible it’s advancing your timing too much and cause you pinging. But gm’s are usually pretty promising. Also your engine moved a lot in that clip when you gave’r. Check them engine mounts make sure the rubber isn’t all cracked!

Slightly clogged cats(or restricted exhaust) or carbon build up could be causing the pinging, easier of the two would be get a BG carbon treatment done on the truck, if that doesn’t work you could try high flow cats

It’s really good stuff and if you start using it as soon as you buy a new vehicle and keep the maintenance up according to their specs they will cover so many dollars (usually a few thousand) if a system (such as fuel system) fails on the vehicle

I myself love budget builds and i love the way the truck has been going so far. Don't do tow mirrors. i don't think they look right on these trucks. i would like to possibly see a dual vent ram air hood in the near future. I think it would make the truck look a lot more aggressive. I have been thinking about putting one on mine. Just my 2 cents. Keep up the good work man!

It seems like your engine it’s jumping a little? Maybe broken motor mount can’t really tell though try checking them out had a similar problem with one

It's your TPS sensor, you need to replace it.

I bought one for my 07 2500hd classic 6.0L it didn't work I was told by edge that it won't work on a 07 classic and to send it them in Utah for a full refund I did and got a bully dog it's no edge by far to me it's junk iam waiting for edge to come with one that will work, funny how a body style was the reason but that's what I was told and offered a full refund Have a good Xmas be safe.
