I’m so glad I found this video after weeks of nothing but actuator fixes and resets it lead me to the real problem of a broken door. Don’t want to drop the whole hvac just yet so drilled a hole and pushed it door shoot and used a plastic grommets to plug the hole!

Great video. Wish I would have found it before I wasted hours trying actuator resets, etc. Used a 6mm snake camera and saw that the driver's blend door is broken. As a temp fix, I put a screwdriver in to push the door closed as much as possible to use the AC until I have a lot of extra time to take the dash and HVAC unit apart. THANKS MUCH DG!

Thanks so much, i replaced my actuator and my new actuator was clicking thats when i suspected that the door itself was stuck closed not allowing the actuator to turn. No other video online visualized the door but your video did. Not sure if i want to replace the door it looks like a lot of work

Great explanation of how this thing works. Better than all the other videos just saying bad actuators

Great video. My issue is, both sides are not changing temperature. I took the actuator off the bottom/drivers side blend door and operated it manually. It moved freely, opened and closed nice and crisp. I don't think it's a broke blend door but it's giving me all the indications of one. The other issue is the passenger side is doing the same thing. I hooked up a scan tool and manually actuated the blend doors and they seem to be following the commanded value. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. This is my son't truck and he needs it back on the road asap. It's a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4X4 with a 5.3 and an automatic. I'm not looking forward to removing the dash but I'll get after it if that's my only option. Thanks in advance.

Literally the only video I’ve been able to find where the door it’s self is the problem and not the actuator. Does anyone know what size screws to use when reinstalling?

What would cause a 2010 CTS to blow cold on defrost, but driver's side heat is working fine?

So I assume the actuator moves both doors both top and bottom for temp control at the same time? I have luke warm heat which is basically cold air when it’s below zero. 2011 Duramax. Shop told me the door is stuck mid way after removing the actuator. I had a mice problem in the ducts. Air moves through all outlets, recirc door works as does the floor/ defrost/ vents door. Just no heat. Its not a dual zone system but heat is cooler on the driver side. If a guy wanted to get through winter without pulling the dash. Could he just drill a hole and pull both doors “shut” with a coat hanger or something similar? How much is the repair job you did, pulling the dash and replacing doors?

Did you attempt this workaround? I have a 2010 CTS, trying to resolve the same issue.

What controls the air to the top vents? Mine hot and cold works. It’s just air barely comes out of dash vents above the radio especially the passenger side and seems like air is being pushed out the bottom

My 07 Silverado replace the door actuator and 1 month later something blows hot air again 😢
