@walterswanson386716 күн бұрын
All good reasons for stacking them. Most people must agree with you. Lately dealers seem to run out of Mercury dimes especially when they have them. Something I find interesting is that when you stick a tube of Mercury dimes next to a tube of Roosevelt dimes, the Mercury dimes are usually lower in the tube. It's due to the fact that they are older and have more wear on them. I too usually never wear gloves when handling them, but then my hands usually have a silver or gray film on them as well as a smell at times.

Subbed. I have been piling precious metals for awhile now, bought my first piece of gold in the early 80's when it was around $400 an ounce. Started buying silver in the early 90's when it was around $8.00 an ounce, but always in bullion, then I would cash it in for gold. I just started silver coin stacking a couple months ago buying rolls from the bank with fair luck finding silver ones. Now I buy bags of "junk" silver, mostly dimes for the exact reasons you state. I like the way you explain things, easy to understand.

For the Mercury Dime series: There are a total of 77 different date and mint mark combinations, including coins struck at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints. Across all issues of the series, there were 2,676,523,880 coins produced. This is more than five times the production of the previous Barber Dime series, which had roughly the same number of issues. The peak mintage occurred with the 1944 Mercury Dime, with 231,410,000 coins struck at the Philadelphia Mint. The lowest mintage issue and famous key date is the 1916-D Mercury Dime. There were a scant 264,000 pieces minted and most were well circulated before being saved by collectors. The average mintage across all issues is 34,760,050.

I like how at the end of your video, #5, you said “you don’t have to worry about wearing gloves.” Since when do YOU care about gloves?🤨 Good video. Love the Mercs. Main reason I like stacking dimes are primarily for SHTF situations, and the low premium over spot. Agree with your “easy to store” reason. Just chuck ‘em in a bag and call it a day. Keep stacking. I still laugh about the most expensive donuts I've ever bought. It was 10 or 12 years ago, when my twin daughters were around kindergarten age. I'd been culling pre-'64 coins from my change. I left them on a corner of my desk in the man-cave. I worked nights at the time, and was asleep one day when my wife decided to take the girls up the street to the donut shop. She didn't have any cash, but she remembered seeing some loose change on my desk... Totally my fault, of course. I'd never mentioned it to my wife, who isn't a born citizen of the US and hadn't been born at all when LBJ took the silver out of our coins (though he was waging a whopping great war in her home country). I thought about it again today when I found a 1919 Mercury dime and a few pre-'64 quarters in a box of my long-deceased stepfather's effects.

Here in the UK, I came across a story that a man had been getting loads of 50th coins from the bank. These coins have loads of different designs. He had spent hundreds of hours going through them and had around 100 face value £50. But as numismatic coins about 800. He had kept telling his wife that they were worth money One day he came home and they were gone. His wife had spent them. "I needed the money now " she explained. He said that she had made her point. And subsequently sold them off quickly.

A good point to remember on stacking physical silver is that less than 2% of the general population has any silver of any kind in their possession. This equates to rare, which will eventually equate to "cha-ching" when the rigging of the metals markets stops. And it will stop eventually.

When my father in law died he gave me 3 5 gallon bottles of buckles and 7 5 gallon bottles of dimes 10 5 gallon bottles quarters and 5 5 gallon bottles of half dollars and then 4 5 gallon bottles of 1.00 and 2.00 coins I thought it was junk change then I found after I used some to wash car that they were all collectibles. I just started looking through them. What is best way to store them?

5 reasons why *not* to stack silver dimes 1) They are only 90% silver. More refining is needed to make them pure, and silver for industrial use needs to be quite pure. 2) Becasue they are circulated, silver has been worn off. You are paying per coin, and are paying for the worn off silver that does add up over time. 3) Although premiums are usually quite low, the same same can be said about large bars. Large bars take up less space, and do not need bags or tubes for storage. 4) Mintage for junk silver is almost always higher then generic 1 ounce silver rounds. Tens of millions vs a few thousand. 5) Junk silver does not have the word 'silver' stamped on it like most other silver coins or bars. Less of the general public will know it's silver compared to a round with '1 ounce of .999 fine silver' stamped on it.

I had a friend ask me if he should get fractional silver rounds/bars. I said no just stack 90% US Constitutional Silver coins as your fractional silver pieces.

Excellent points. In addition to having known mintages, it's also worth considering that actual survival estimates are less than original mintage figures. Many of these coins were lost, destroyed, or melted. Over time, that should help increase premiums, especiallty if prices rise in the future, and more are melted.

2A Enthusiast very true! i’m sure a lot have been melted especially in the 80s. 🔥🐉

House Resolution states that all future PM coinage must be .999 purity. Dimes will have to be remelted into .999 US purity coinage. There is not enough Junk to meet our US coinage needs.

Bill Rundell they finally made the proof sets 999 it’s taken quite a while 😂
@billrundell20975 жыл бұрын
@@SilverDragons47 Silver 90% dimes will not be accepted as US coinage, as declared by House Resolution. Not one PM realer is speaking out on this. They are going to receive a hefty fee when the Junk need to be handed in for remelt. PM dealers want to get rid of it by offering huge Junk saving. Buyer Beware.

I don't know what Canada has in mind legal wise. I'd be interested a link to the Bill. But I still think can be very useful in commerce. It is immediately durable for day to day transactions while 0.999 would be more suitable for conveyance of wealth between financial entities and individuals. Need to look at the fine print.

they are small enough for trade and easily identifiable. also the value of a single dime buys 2 loves of quality bread now and 2 thousand years ago.

I got that same deal but I got the quarters also. I got a barber in mine along with 30 Mercury's so that was a plus. A roll of mercury's are more expensive than Roosevelt's.✌
