I bought this system back in November and it is amazing. The materials and craftsmanship from this company is unparalleled. Todd is very helpful and personable. He answers every email personally and ships super fast! I love his products and have many of them.

Good video! Yet, while it is common practice to light these wood gas stoves using the upside down fire lay, I suggest they work much better with a traditional fire lay. Especially when using wood pellets. I have an Ohuhu that has vent holes in the bottom of the firebox. After laying the fire I simply pick the stove up and light it from the bottom. I believe you will find that not only will the fire be much easier to light it will burn more efficiently, reaching operating temperature more quickly.

I have the 304 stainless steel Silverfire scout stove. Best bio stove hands down. Great for backpacking and hiking. Very high quality and packs down in a MSR pot. Very efficient combustion. The dragon pot is just awsome for making rabbit stew when you are out rabbit hunting. Great food at the end of a day rabbit hunting. What could be better?

Great video Mike. I'm a huge fan of the Scout.

+Wingman115 this would be a great option for your area Jon. There is virtually no chance of the fire escaping from the stove.

I have the same stove (thanks to you!). This pot makes it that much better.

Great video. I like the concept of the pot but wonder how easy the cleanup would be. I’ve found that the wood gas stoves do produce a lot of suet which will cost the pot and the inside of the other wall.

Cleanup isn’t the easiest. Honestly, I use this pot at home on my gas stove all the time. It stays in my kitchen.

That is the most interesting design I have seen in a long time. It looks like it would be extremely efficient. Built in windscreen. Double wall kind of insulates against heat loss. Looks like it might have a rocket stove effect as well. Kind of like the Kelly kettle in reverse, chimney on the outside instead of the inside. How is the stability of the handle when pouring from the pot?
@MichaelTravis12c27
@MichaelTravis12c27 7 жыл бұрын
+Mark Young (Shunpyke) its extremely efficient and effective. The stability is ok but you need to support it. I would prefer if the handle locked in place.
@op3129
@op3129 6 жыл бұрын
regarding the non-locking issue: why not just get a magnet (put between exterior pot wall and hinge-flap thingie)? neodymium should be strong enough to overcome the pot's curve. (maybe target at least 42 or 45 minimum strength.)

That is indeed a well thought out complete system and those pellets were amazing!!!!

I really enjoy my scout stove. Thanks for the review of the large pot. I'll be buying one now. Where can I buy the pellets?
@MichaelTravis12c27
@MichaelTravis12c27 7 жыл бұрын
+Fred Bromm anyplace that sells wood pellet stoves will carry the pellets. I've seen them at Lowes and Home Depot as well as a number of hardware stores. Like I said, I heat my house with them so I buy them a ton at a time. They typically come in 40lb bags. Cabelas sells them for wood pellet grills but they tend to be more expensive.

I bring wood pellets when I canoe camp. This looks like a really good design. Also had the idea maybe you could bake a biscuit by putting the top upside down and putting some coals in.

does the build up of tar or whatever else that black stuff is cause any corrosion issues? I recently bought one of these and it builds up so much residue on every metal surface.

Nice one. Thanks for sharing :) Does the pot and skirt come apart? Not sure if you mention it or not. That may account for the smoke? If it can't come apart for cleaning it may get clogged up eventually. Other than that nice idea. Looking forward to seeing a bit more of the knife. Have been looking at that one myself :) Take care. Craig :)
@MichaelTravis12c27
@MichaelTravis12c27 7 жыл бұрын
+Craig Unwin it does not come apart. There isn't any way to clean between the walls but there is a fair amount of space so I don't see it getting clogged.

I find it funny that all you youtubers qualify everything Mike....you didn't collect twigs for the stove...you didn't light it with a ferro rod....just funny that you have to apologize to your audience. for using a bit of technology to have a fire...actually...I find it sad that some make you do this because if you don't make qualifications...you get the "you lit that with a match, you're not a real bushcrafter" crap. Love you're Channel Mike...keep it up.....I won't miss a video, no matter what you do...do whatever you want.... (except maybe batoning with a folder, that for some reason drives me crazy) lol

Im curious about cleaning the pot, especially the outside wall of the inner pot
@nerdinium
@nerdinium 6 жыл бұрын
I'm puzzled - without the pot you have clean flames with no smoke. When you put the pot on the stove you get lots of smoke coming out of the portholes of the pot and it looks like a bunch of creosote on the inside pot. Seems like having the pot on the top of the stove kills the clean reburning.
