@SilverMeister2 жыл бұрын
Depending on the silver content, of course, they are very different. 90%, 92.5%, 95%, 97%, 99.9% are all different. Each has different properties and different applications. It is difficult to give you details in a few words. You should refer to the thesis. The thickness of the gold sheet,,, A postcard-sized gold sheet is about 3-4g. That's about the thickness. It is about the thickness of a regular paper. Heating these metals to a temperature between 260~370°C increases the movement of the atoms. When pressure is added, this causes an electron exchange at the surface between the two metals, creating a permanent diffusion bond. This diffusion bond occurs far below the soldering temperature for either metal (Dhein, 2004). Nothing is permanent in this world. It may wear out over time. Physical contact may cause it to peel off. It doesn't go away easily with the passage of time. Because silver and gold became one. This is different from normal plating. The purity of gold is, of course, 99.99%. Finally,,, this is also a ""traditional Korean metal craft technique"". Thanks~

I have watched this video several times. I am amazed at you abilities and craftsmanship. Your techniques, the use of hand tools only and if I'm correct some tools you have made yourself, like the texturing hammer, are inspiring. No machines just hammers, files, torches and talent. I am an aspiring jewelry maker and hope to one day, with a lot of practice & patience, be half as good as you. I will continue to watch your videos and learn. I do have a question. I have not seen anyone use camellia oil as you do. Is it used as a seal, and if yes, do you recommend using it occasionally on the items you make? Thank YOU for these videos. I look forward to watching more of them.

Camellia oil is vegan oil. The reason for applying oil is to delay and protect the oxidation of the silver surface. A very thin oil film protects the surface. After applying the oil, clean it again to finish. The camellia oil that I use is safe to eat. It is a very good natural oil that is harmless to the human body even when the ring is worn on the hand. This is the part that a lot of people are curious about. Since my work does not have a special finish after completion, As a minimum surface protection, it is often finished by applying natural vegetable oil and wiping it. Although it is not shown in the video, it is sometimes coated with natural beeswax (honeycomb). Beeswax melts easily even at low temperatures (approximately 60-80 degrees) by applying slight heat to it and coating the entire work. Since what I am aiming for is nature-friendly as it is, it can be viewed as a minimum protection work.

@SilverMeister2 жыл бұрын

@SilverMeister2 жыл бұрын

@@SilverMeister how they are made.the different samples (variants) 925,800,... silver .and solder for them.and for gold too.
@SilverMeister2 жыл бұрын
Ah~~ the number means the amount of silver. Internationally, sterling silver with a silver content of 92.5% is mainly used as the base material. Solder is used by making alloys (melted) with various purities. In the case of solder, the higher the purity of silver, the less easily it melts, but it adheres strongly. If the purity of silver is low, it will flow well, but it will adhere weakly. You should use a solder that is gradually lowered from high purity, so that the first thing you worked with does not come off due to the temperature difference. This is the basis of silver craft work. To talk in detail, you need to study a lot by referring to the book. Hope my answer was helpful.

@SilverMeister2 жыл бұрын

I have another question for you. I hope you don't mind? Will the gold leaf adhere to Argentium as it does to sterling silver?

I don't know what Argentium is. If the silver contains more than 90% pure silver, it is possible to keum-boo. The name (naming) to call silver is meaningless. The amount of pure silver contained in silver is important.

In case you're wondering why he keeps heating and cooling it between hammering steps - "annealing" is application of heat and then rapid cooling, which allows the silver atoms to align, making the metal softer (malleable). Hammering it causes them to get chaotic again, which makes the metal harder and prone to shearing.

I am not a beginner. Could I have made this work without knowing what you were talking about? I appreciate that you are interested in my videos and works, but be careful of comments that are not considerate of the other person. This is my channel, not a forum community, and it is not advisable to make such comments when no one has asked a question. Please be careful.

@@SilverMeister Wow, I only made the comment so that others who watched the video, who do not have knowledge of the craft, would understand. Not meant to offend anyone in any way whatsoever.

Okay. I understand your intentions. I do not speak English well. The translator doesn't seem to be working properly. I'm not mad, I hope you don't misunderstand. May luck always be with you... thanks~

Love the work, would also be great with white gold or platinum, but I believe silver is seen as more “precious”, although not as costly as gold or platinum, with some Asian cultures, in particular with the ancient Chinese dynasty structure. I’ve read that silver represented a higher status as compared to gold, although gold the more rare and expensive of the 2 metals, with Finger Guards worn by royalty and high class Chinese families in the ancient times. Not sure if that is still the situation today, maybe with those who can trace their roots to the Mandarin and Ming rulers.

I am Korean Not Chinese. Nan majored in metal crafts, completed graduate studies, and has been doing metal crafts for 30 years. Although I am Korean, I also know about Chinese metal crafts, It has dealt with various precious metals, including gold, silver, and platinum. Although you already know what you said, I'm not interested, and I don't feel like being mentioned on my channel. I just do what I can... From a foreign perspective, Eastern countries may look similar, but They are clearly different and have their own culture. Korea is a small but strong and old people. We have been living on the basis of thousands of years of tradition with our own unique culture. Please understand that I do not want to see stories from other countries on my channel. My comments depend on the translator. I hope my intentions have been well communicated to you without misunderstanding.

@@SilverMeister yes, I realize that, I have many friends that are of Korean, Chinese, Indian, Italian, Irish, Spanish, Russian, African, German, etc descent, my brothers wife is Chinese, and his son Korean, which is the beauty of being in America. Korean Pickled Cabbage & Fried Chicken one day, Italian pasta the next, and Indian Tikka Masala the day after. There is no other place like it, we all treasure being American, but also treasure our roots from our country of origin.

The understanding of a work process is determined by the level of the viewer. Ordinary people don't know anyway. Even without a detailed explanation, I always think that people with a high level of seeing will understand the value of the work.

Thank you for your advice,,,,, it is a method that everyone knows. I also do what you said. I have been working for over 30 years, and depending on the situation, I am working in a different way from time to time. The wound on the palm of my right hand is not burnt. It is a trace of working with a metal tool in hand for a long time, And the wound gets worse and then gets better and repeats. It has nothing to do with the wound on the hand or the way it works. What is shown in the video is not representative of everything. Thanks for the comment~
