Building a type set coin collection from the Philippines is no easy task. It's not the most popular set for collectors, but it's so rich in history and the coins themselves are beautiful that it is worthy of any numismatist. Join me as I try to collect one of every type of coin produced by the Philippines.

hi silverpicker im a filipino numismatist and i love seeing this type set thank you for appreciating us the man with the anvil is believed to be bernardo carpio he is a hero from a legend but some historians say it refers to the working class while the walking woman is believed to be Maria makiling also a mythical creature but some say its lady liberty. The anvil portrays the working class same with the sitting man.

Hello, SilverPicker! Filpino here, and I really enjoyed this video! Thank you for the appreciation of our coins! You're correct-that album is only the beginning! After 1964, my country had five coin series (English series is 1958-1966, then Pilipino series, Ang Bagong Lipunan series, Flora and Fauna series, New Design series, and currently the New Generation Currency). Wishing you the best in your new numismatic endeavor! Exciting! 😁

@@Silverpicker as far as I know, there are no Whitman-like albums produced with the newer series en masse and widely known here in PH. But I have seen in social media some coins in private/personal flips (or the term for the individual pages of the Whitman album) but only for each series. My series' collection is placed in a coin cardboard flip and organized in a BCW coin pocket pages 😁

Used to be a thing they've done more often, but they haven't done this actively since I think about 1950's/1960's. The last coin the US minted for another country was the 2000 Leif Ericson commemorative that they minted for Iceland (the US minted one of their own, and one designed by Iceland).

Cool! I love it when people find a niche to collect into. I do a bit of roll hunting. I am right next to Canada so I get Canadian coins in my rolls. I am slowly putting a Canadian small cent collection from coins found in US cent coin rolls. I want to get as far as possible by searching only US cent rolls for the dates. Eventually to complete it I will have to get the early ones another way. Oddly I have found both 5 and 10 centavos Phillipine coins in my roll hunting. I kept them of course. So you can find these here, today, for basically the value of a nickels and dimes.

Interesting mix, I have 2 silver 1 Peso coins dated 1907 and 1908, Both F - VF one a bit blackened but good examples. Can send pics if you want. these coins are 80% silver and a bit smaller than US dollars. You will find post 1964 Philipine coins easy to get, you have the national hero series, the nature series, the second 1993 nature series and now the new generation coinage. Post 1964 are all base metal coins.

Mr picker, I have the same type set album, mine is not as nice as yours, but on the other hand the USPI section is full and I got a screaming deal on it on ebay a month ago. There are other Philippines sets thats been published in the Philippines but they are mostly the type where you put in a hole without access to back and no plastic film protection. Its expensive to get some of the coins especially the ones only minted one year like the 1897 one peso and the 1936 commemorates.

Nice video, coins are all about history and nation pride. So it's nice to see them from different countries over the world I like sets of the world the most. @Anthony Tsatsis Well that is the problem with coins who got gunk on them. If you clean coins you will desturb the surface. And that will damage the coin(s). That is the reason I don't clean them. If I find a better coin I will put it in my normal collection.

Peso is commonly pronounced like pesto without the t. This is widespread. Each of the 1944 centavos coins you have can be improved by type to MS or AU cheaply; this is no different than a US collector putting a VF 1921 Morgan into a type set. Please note that the 10,20,50 centavos are 75% silver (90% from 1903-06, 75% from 1907-1945) while the pesos are 80% (90% from 1903-06). More modern type coins are also cheap and common, except for the 1 centavo (recently demonetized, but rarely ever seen in common use after 1960). Also, it's anyone's guess if Caballo Bay still has millions of pesos or if they were all recovered after being dumped in 1942. ako kalahate pinoy, USA born

I found one of these brand new but like $250. What's the most you'd pay for it? Btw, just picked up the two MacArthur coins, peso and 50 centavos.

The album? Certainly not more than $100. Ideally closer to $50 (or less)
