Bogey's Santana Productions borrowed its name from his beloved yacht, the Santana. His independent film company had varying levels of success, but his fans still love everything he did. The AFI voted him No. 1 male film star of cinema's first 100 years. God rest his soul.

I heard that during the world war two he used his boat to patrol the coast were he lived because coastal defense was lacking of coastal patrols and it was said he did it near about every day he made his rounds with his own monies as well, he was a true American patriot!
@alvaropelayo808410 ай бұрын
It's a shame that AFI voted number one, he should be 100th, there are many many much better than him, starting with John Wayne, Clark Gable, Bing Crosby, Robert Taylor, Alan Ladd, Frank Sinatra, Burt Lancaster, Robert Mitchum, Jeff Chandler, Charlton Heston, Charlie Chaplin, Randolph Scott, James Cagney, Gary Cooper, James Stewart, Bob Hope, Cary Grant, William Holden, Richard Widmark, Glenn Ford, etc, he was at the most good as a supporting player like in Angels With Dirty Faces, but number one is unvelievable!!

A great look at the societal norms accepted as fact back in the first half of the 20th Century. Such a play redone with the same dialog today would appear strange to almost any contemporary audience. The quality of the print is outstanding. That, the period music, and Bogy himself make the film a generally enjoyable experience for anyone. Despite the stilted sociology displayed by the late 1940's characters and dialog; the story is interesting and holds a definate place as a classic.

At first I thought Florence Marly was Michele Morgan (The Chase) and something about her bone structure, make up and hairstyle, reminded me of Peter Weller's Robocop! Sorry about that...

*** SPOILER ALERT *** 1:22:45 - 1:22:56 . . . . 1:24:15 - 1:24:40 The KEY to the gloomy ending. Joe dropping the gun ensures a well-choreographed, physical fight accentuated with pounding music with base drum, moody lighting with dark shadows, the girl's very effective screams plus the cutaways to the lethal knife on the ground -- just waiting to be picked up by one of the two, Joe or the villain, both in that deadly struggle to administer the coup de grace. When Joe is victorious, surely knowing there's more than one 'baddie' in the basement guarding / tormenting Anya, the girl, he should have retrieved the pistol PROMPTLY -- a VITAL act requiring a matter of a few seconds -- then race to pick up and comfort his precious daughter. That brief interlude is all it took for the villain to retrieve the gun. A FATAL mistake on Joe's part, one that a trained and experienced American military officer would not likely make. 'IF disarmed, retrieve sidearm ASAP to protect oneself and those in your protection' -- "Survival 101" tactical mindset. [I was thinking the fight was taking up so much time that Joe would resort to telling the 8-year old, quick -- get the gun!" -- although she may have been tied up, so that verbal command would be useless.] Good movie; thank you, "Silver Scenes," but way, way WAY too many, frequently positioned ads.
