So very very beautiful. My back yard, kind of( Sterling-Littleton-Englewood) Getting home sick Mike!! Mike, you can do it, go hiking, good pair of boots, going with others not by your self. Too beautiful not to go! Had to watch this again, it is just a incredible drive, just beyond words to describe the senery. Can you imagine what it was like carving out this road in the late 1880s? Just incredible.

We used to come up from Tennessee this way to Ridgway and Owl Creek Pass. Camped up there many times since about 1980. Decent gravel road up there, few people and just gorgeous mountains. I recommend it to anyone who doesn't enjoy crowds. Several scenes from movies were filmed up there, including 1969's True Grit.

Those mountain hwys have such breathtaking scenery but you can't really enjoy it when you are driving because your concentration should be riveted to the road - blind curves, small shoulders, windy roads, sudden accelerations, no guard rails... thanks for the view, Mike.

Back when i drove those roads years ago, i either had my F250 with a four speed, or my Volvo sedan with a five speed. Those straight transmissions were the best in the mountains. When i first starting to haul horses out to Grand Junction from Minnesota, i had a Chevy Suburban with an automatic, that, was no good, the automatic always wanted to shift when it was not supposed to. I got rid of that rig, and, went to the Ford which was a big improvement.

@edwardjones96315 жыл бұрын
NoBluffBuff ...yes, but the first mile cost the most. You're right about the cost, but isn't this highway named because of the gold ore aggregate rock used in its paving?

@@edwardjones9631 , no one knows why it was named but it goes back to 1880 and it was not paved road then , it was said some said you couldn't get them to drive it in the winter not even for a million dollars. There are several passes. If you haven't been, YOU GOT TO GO!
