Biggest tip I got was $70 and the guy told me if I want a few extra digits on my check I could work at his family coffee shop down the street and I was allowed to have free coffee and allowed to take 2 meals each day for the first month of work proud to say I still work there to this day

Simba speaking nothing but FACTS. My first job ever was as a hostess at Applebee's. Was it the job of my dreams...hell nah. But it was convenient because it was literally a fifteen minute walk away from my university. I was making $4.50 an hour and hardly got tips. Never complained tho, considering the majority of my job was sitting people down at a table with menus and busting the tables when those people left. Definitely hated that job with a passion, plus management was TRASHHHHH. (Lowkey one of em was stealing tips off the bartenders at the end of the night.)

Here's a fun one. I'm from the Netherlands and one time i told a waiter to keep the change since it was like 10 or 20 cents. She had to go ask her boss if that was even allowed. That's how much of a foreign concept that is out here. Now you got food delivery companies trying to pull that shit out here but luckily it does not seem to be catching on.

Tipping is NOT universal, fam. In fact, in Japan tipping is considered AN INSULT because they don't expect their customers to pay extra for their best quality of service! I do tip in the States, but I avoid places that have people who "work for tips only," because they're not workers; they're SLAVES! We as a collective need to eradicate the practice of "supplementing" or, in some cases, OUTRIGHT PAYING employees' wages ON TOP OF what we paid for the product/service that's going straight to the employer's pockets as profit!

I used to work as a stocker in a grocery store, note they force stockers to pretty much do every other position WHILE still have to do our regular stuff AND WE WAS NIGHT SHIFT SO ALREADY RED FLAG, but stockers were forced to take peoples carts to their cars,if they asked for it, but the SPECIFICALLY OLD PEOPLE were the only one who tipped us, then later during that year our head boss started enforcing a no tip rule, so already with my regular duties as a stocker, i had to stop what IM SUPPOSED TO DO AND CARRY SOMEONE ELSE SHIT AND GET NO TIP? I was a restaurant manager for over 25 years. At the time servers made $2.65 an hour and their tips are calculated by the government assuming their tips make up the difference for minimum wage. It is the government not the restaurant as far as servers. The government also makes them report the tips after every shift when they clock out, also if the government feels that you haven't claimed enough tips they will assume you got the tips and tax you for more anyway. You had me cracking up by the way 😂

I was at a IHop once and there was a server that was serving an entire side of the restaurant, doing 110% of the work and doing it with an infectiously upbeat attitude. It's not always offensive to tip in Japan, but it can be. They take pride in their work, so tips is kinda like bribing them. It's mostly not really accepted in chains. Sometimes, in family restaurants and hole in the wall stores it's accepted. Their wages already cover their base expenses, so there's no need to do that, and that sort of culture isn't respected. This is also disrespectful to their employer because this suggests that they devalue their employees and do not pay them enough, which can put them in hot water.

0:02 cashiers don’t get tips but when I was a cashier people would tip us just cause. I got a $40 tip out the fucking blue my first year at my job in Seattle I was so shocked. Girl asked for $40 in cash back and I can’t even remember our conversation. It was December but damn that surprise the hell out of me I was so thankful 🥹. An older man would tip me a few bucks cause I knew his grandson and sometimes my coworkers would get small token of appreciations and it speaks volumes to the customer service we provide. Yeah, tipping is non existent here except for waiters at restaurants, you aint gonna ever tip a cashier unless you are feeling rich and tell them to keep the change, everything else is not tipped for, you deliver my food? Maybe, you deliver a package? If you aint gone then maybe, If you just scanned 2 items and handed them to me? Fuck no. And everyone accepts that here, No one gives you the stink eye when you dont tip cus over here almost 50% of the country lives in extreme poverty, its a 50 50 split from middle and upper-class and poverty, and everyone is nice about it, they give tips to people less fortunate then them and wages are god awful but the generosity of rando's allow the less fortunate to live decent lives. My mom was a waiter and managed to take care of me and my needs while going to collage for a medical degree, she managed to graduate and get a really good job and paid off her huge student loan and she's living good, its actually the reason we always tip if you are nice. To help people the the situation we were once in.
