Ladies and Gentletrolls, this is what city-building music should sound like. All of the joy, the mirth, and the romance of constructing a city from nothing. The day-life, the nightlife, and all with enough commercial and industrial value to let those shiny simoleons roll right into the coffers. After all, we have to keep that frumpy treasury adviser sane and happy.

UPDATED - see edit below: According to Wiki: the music was composed by Jerry Martin.... "The fifteen tracks from the game are also available as MP3s for download on EA's SC3K website for listening outside of the game" (now a dead link). The jazz musicians are Vincent Herring on alto and tenor saxes, Ryan Kisor on trumpet, Joey Calderazzo on piano, the late Dwayne Burno on double bass, and Jeff Hamilton on drums. A couple of places now seem to be charging for the soundtrack, Itunes included, but I think that since EA were happy to offer it for free on their own site, we all have the moral authority to seek it elsewhere :-). UPDATE: This track was actually NOT by Jerry Martin, it is one of two tracks on the sountrack that were by a dude called Marc Russo. Beyond8's comment down there *points down* has more information. If anyone else was wondering, Jerry Martin did 10 of the 15 songs from the soundtrack, with 2 by Mark Russo, and 3 by Robi Kauker & Kent Jolly, Kirk Casey, and Anna Karney.

There’s something special about the jazz music in this game. I listen to it, and I’m filled with images of the city. But not in the ‘iconic monuments or people at fancy events’ sense, I’m talking about a montage of brick walls, concrete stoops, inner-city light rail, runty trees with wrought iron fences around them, crowded sidewalks, that sort of thing.

Bars 1-8 is the same chord structure as a 12-bar form (I-I-I-I-IV-IV-I-I), but bars 9-12 has an odd turnaround (iii-ii diminished-ii-V) until it goes to the I chord at 13-16. Note: I'm a classically trained Music Education major with a basic understanding of Jazz, who is creating a lesson plan on the Blues form for an assignment.
