Let's take look back to the Men’s 15 kilometres + 15km skiathlon Cross-Country Skiing event at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang. Simen Hegstad Krüger from Norway recovered from an early fall, but managed to win the competition against all odds in front of his fellow Norwegians Martin Johnsrud Sundby and Hans Christer Holund. Making it from last to first, Krüger's Gold medal victory is truly one to remember. #StayStrong Enjoy watching!

The commentator totally misses the fact that Spitsov (number 16) and Krueger (number 7) were both part of the pile-up at the start and both of them were 38 seconds behind the leaders after a couple kilometers, but they worked together to move through the pack and both ended up in the lead group at the end. Yes, Krueger had an out-of-this-world performance and won the race but the commentator just didn't see that Spitsov played an important part in Krueger being able to make it back up to the lead group. Spitsov finished in fourth place just behind the three Norwegians.

I love seeing full events uploaded like this instead of an abridged version. My only complaint is that the winner was put in the title and knowing the winner takes a little away from the experience of watching.

I have the highest respect for the decision from Sundby as captain on the Norwegian team, when he sacrificed his own gold chance by letting Kruger go more than 20 sec ahead of the group to feel sure he and Holund wouldn't bring other competitors up to Kruger when they made their sprint after him. Looking at the finish speed and strength from Sundby I'm quite sure he would have won this race, and his decision made it possible for Norway to take all three at the podium. Thanks with great respect to Sundby as a real captain.

Norwegian here... Cross country skiing is kind of our national sport, and there are so many details about skiis, poles, wax, techniques, strengths and weaknesses of the athletes that norwegian commentators brings out. This commentator spends 80% of the time commentating the position of the athletes and 20% the weather. Quite funny :D

In the weeks before the Olympics, Norwegian TV had run a lot of nostalgia clips from earlier championships, many of which feature amazing recoveries after initial falls. So when I saw that fall, I immediately thought "ha ha, he's going to win gold now" - sarcastically, not really believing it.

How about Denis Spitsov? He was also part of that crash. 21 years old at the time, dragged Krüger around after they fell. If it wasn't for Spitsov, Krüger wouldn't have had anyone to really slipstream off of and likely wouldn't have gotten back to the leading group. Spitsov actually got there faster, but was in a bad position in the leading group when Krüger attacked on the last lap. I actually think Spitsov was the strongest that day. He deservedly got three medals out of Korea, 15km, relay and sprint relay.

I don't think you are right in terms of Krüger & Spitsov collaboration and "slipstream". It doesn't make so much impact in cross-country skiing, it's completely not as much tactical thing as in cycling. But you are right, Spitsov did remarkable recovery and could take a medal that day. Shame that Denis can't find his consistency since that Olympics.

Collogna have consistently been one of the best skiiers for the last decade therefor he should be one of the name the commentator should be familliar with if he had done his homework beforehand.
