As a collegiate distance runner, the fact that these guys can run under a 35 minute 10k after swimming and biking is just down right insane.
@maxkho003 ай бұрын
It was a 30-minute 10k for the Brownlee and Murray, btw. I could run a 42-minute 10k and was considered super-athletic. I was often played as a fullback in football due to my pace and stamina. A 35-minute 10k was completely unthinkable for me. I'd have to specifically train distance running for years to be able to achieve something like that. And these guys are running a 30-minute 10k after a 40km cycle and a 1.5km swim. Utterly insane.

@@laurad9173 I agree but we had a trans woman compete in the weightlifting and 2 intersex athletes in the women's 200m who placed silver and bronze, both have far too high male hormone and cannot compete above 200m due to the unfair advantage it would give them over the women with normal natural levels, I don't think they should be able to compete unless they take drugs to lower their hormone levels or we may as well just let women and men compete against one another. Or else just let the other women take as much male hormone as they want to and then see who wins. They seriously need to look at the current rules and stop them being so unfair to 99.9% of women.

It's kinda regrettable that the swim is rendered mostly moot by the bike ride. Like...being a world-class swimmer only benefits you up to the point that it lets you stay with the top 10 or so going into T1. If you came out of the water 5 minutes ahead of everyone else in a group, they'd still catch you because they are able to work together on the ride. If you came out of the ride with that kind of lead, it's unlikely you'd be caught because draft isn't as huge a factor on a run. Seems to me the edge goes to those that can just stay close enough on the swim to bridge up to the lead pack on the ride, then draft at the back of the peloton, then stand out in the run to win. Granted, I've never done a triathlon, but I have done each sport individually. Are there any triathletes here that can shed some light on this? I'm looking to do my first triathlon this year and am trying to learn all I can.
