Another great video with your usual balanced viewpoints Mark. I can't wait to try 2024 but I'm old enough to be at least a bit wary. I cannot imagine the Microsoft servers handling the amount of people who will download it on day one. And not to forget the installation issues that plagued the initial release of 2020. I have loads of patience anyway, so I have time to let it bed in and have the wrinkles ironed out before I step in.

@tasercs That's why it's best to pay for the pre-order available on Steam, not sure about the other download platforms. By going the pre-order route, you get to download it before the official release day but of course, the Sim will be locked until release day but at least you won't get caught in the dreaded download queue on the day.

As they have optimised the cpu multi threading I think the need for a better gpu than that you’re currently using for 2020 will be less necessary. Even more so for VR but more v ram will always help. I have big concerns about how the 'just-in-time' scenery/object loading will work. As I look around the outside world now, the sim loads objects from my very fast SSD's, because they're loaded into the drive before I hit 'Fly.' Holding those objects back until I look in their direction means comparative latency and lag. There's no way around that. I hate to say it, but it's yet another example of how the sim cripples its potential in order to accomodate the lesser capabilities of the console.

As the MSFS2020 was very poorly optimized and heavy relied on sinngle core performance, the 2024 version should not be much more demanding, especially CPU wise, as it will finally utilize more cores so single core performance will not be that important anymore. I also believe, it could be benefetial to upgrade to 32Gigs of RAM. As the by far most expensive piece of hardware to uprade would be the GPU, i believe only VRAM should be a concern. As the FS can be perfectly enjoyed with less than 60 frames, i´ll stick with my 3070 for now.

MSFS 2024 is basically identical to MSFS 2020. So yes if your pc can run MSFS 2020 then it will be fine. Any changes to the new sim are not major changes from what ive seem or heard. Its the same game engine, complete with flaws, ie the Horizon bug is still there. Oh and still no basic flyby camera or tower views, which am starting to wonder if this is deliberate despite Asobo saying they will implement it. Still MSFS 2024 looks amazing and no doubt is a great addition to have. I just wish they would include a basic flyby option, rather than the gimmicky ability to get out of you plane and take photos of animals. 🤣

So, I should be more than okay, with my laptop ROG Zephyrus G14 equipped with: AMD Ryzen™ 9 6900HS Mobile Processor, AMD Radeon™ RX 6700S, ROG Boost: up to 100W(SmartShift), 8 GB GDDR6 and 40 GB DDR5-4.800 SO-DIMM, right?

I’ve been debating to update my old HP monitor from 2005. I don’t run any intensive games really other than MSFS 2020 and I run that in VR. What occurred to me though, does running a less than adequate monitor bring down the performance and clarity of a VR headset?

I am unsure - currently have a Ryzen 7 2700 and GTX 1060, 16gb, and can run 1080p at medium settings 30fps. Im looking at getting a Ryzen 5 7600x 3070, 32gb for the new sim as want to be able to run at high/ultra settings and get 30fps at least...and ideally get to 2k?

Looking at the Recco specs and the 'ideal' specs; there sems to be a MASSIVE hole between the two! I use AMD, both CPU and GPU, and my CPU, a 5900x, is massively faster that the 2700x in the recco list, and almost as fast as the 7900x for this purpose. I agree with your comments about the CPU specs - the 2700x suggestion is,,, a joke, as is the suggestion that it will run with just a 10Mbps connection. It's as dumb as the 64GB suggestion, when the guy himself states it will not use 64GB!

2020 doesnt run well with a 14900 and a 4090. 4090 gpu utilization is at 50% while threads in the cpu are maxed out.

I'll wait and see. Do we know if the 2020 add-ons will work in 2024?

Most, yes.

@@SimHangerFS I hope 2024 can use file links to existing 2020 add-ons. I'm running low on disk. Now that we are getting closer to launch, the practicalities of the switch are starting to line up.

@@SimHangerFS If you have the store Version of MS2020 and buy the Steam Version 2024 you lose the buying addon?

Doesn’t really matter. I have an RTX 4090 and i9 14900kf 32gb of ram and msfs 2020 doesn’t look anything like some of these KZbin videos. I believe There is a lot of post processing in the videos and a bucket load of add ons. Straight out of the box MSFS 2020 is good, but starting at the the minimum graphics and performance you can bare, and then stepping up settings until it’s unplayable, then back tracking is the only thing I found that works. I stopped chasing FPS a long time ago. If you can accept poor graphics then that’s fine. But if your computer doesn’t match the recommended performance as a minimum, then I wouldn’t waste my time bothering with MSFS24. As for streaming a lot more data, that is extremely disappointing. I live in a village in UK. Using a donkey would be faster than sending a message by email. Internet in UK is generally beyond pathetic. I personally would be quite happy to have the ability to download EVERYTHING that I would want to use. I have 64-70gb BUT it is extremely unstable. Again I would point out that the video shown IS NOT OUT OF THE BOX GRAPHICS.

That's what everyone seems to ignore, RAM and storage are just a few clicks away, but you can't just go and get 100Mbps

Would a 3090 be good enough for 4k ultra… thats what I’m currently using for MSFS 2020 at 4k ultra… trying to wait it out for a 5080 or 5090

My data plan isn't cheap so I can see it getting pretty expensive as it downloads GB's of data every time I run it.
