Tarantino made a tribute to one of the greatest westerns of all time. Not many people noticed it. So I made this video.

Having just watched Inglorious Bastereds a week after The Good, The Bad, The Ugly, I immediately noticed the similarities. It's pretty cool to make these kind of connections :)

This is true, but The good,the bad, and the ugly is the better movie.

Even the high dissonant strings during the shootouts are remarkably similar

I love both directors, Leone did make an unlicensed remake of Yojimbo (A Fistful of Dollars) so you can't really criticise Tarantino for his references to Leone
@televisiontunnelvision33035 жыл бұрын
mrliamcooke well even if this is criticism... sure he can! Just because Leone also ripped off someone doesn’t mean that makes it okay for Tarantino to do so.
@Bogart4ever Жыл бұрын
No you are wrong. It's not the same having a similar script and redoing the same filmmaking same shots and so on... this is clearly copying or homage call it how you like it. What sergio leone did was an adaptation and his filmmaking was revolutionary that is why tarantino and other directors are using his cinematographic language

@@Bogart4ever okay. You may be right. My comment is 7 years old so I don’t really feel that passionately anymore or even remember leaving the comment
@Bogart4ever Жыл бұрын
@@mrliamcooke haha :D yes I saw it was a long time ago. Just wanted to say that an adaptation of a script is not the same as doing copy paste and doing the same exact shots :)

Since Leone is his favorite director ofc his work will have huge influences by Leone, makes sense?
@christopher73984 жыл бұрын
ubbgn not so much influenced as it is nearly the same scene.

I always thought Pulp Fiction ripped this scene off TGTBATU - Jules looking all threatening and shit as he eats that dude's hamburger and drinks his Sprite and has that look in his eye of 'You're not going to need this food anyway, why let it go to waste?'

It is Tarantino's favorite movie.

Quentin Tarantino pays tribute to Sergio Leone (as well as Spaghetti Westerns period) all the time so this shouldn't come as a surpise
@nichmiller4558 жыл бұрын
similar. but then tarantino goes and writes a 20 minute genius dialogue scene. just because your inspired by a scene doesnt mean your copying it. you can make similarities between every film. guy does this and that, oh well guy did this and that 20 years ago in this film blah blah blah.
@Bogart4ever Жыл бұрын
It's more about the mise en scenes. I guess you will be copying the greats like leone or Hitchcock. Does who invented a cinematographic language. But it's true that tarantino uses a lot of it.

Haha people around here saying QT has no originality... Have you guys ever heard of Pulp Fiction
@radiationbacon4 жыл бұрын
Quentin Tarantino himself admitted the premise of PF came from the 3 most unoriginal stories ever just with a twist on them

Tarantino had just used the music track from the GBU introduction to Angel Eyes in Kill Bill 2, so I imagine that's why he didn't want to use that music for the opening scene of Basterds.

Quentin loves Sergio Leone, he cribbed his work all the time. This scene, the three guys shooting each other in Reservoir Dogs is the end of The Good, The Bad the Ugly.
@m.rauhanrasheed1468 Жыл бұрын
GBU is a much better film but the opening sequence of Inglorious Basterds is miles ahead of any intro existed

Its one thing to pay "tribute". But this guy rips off way way too much from Sergio Leone films. He needs to come up with his own stuff..
@RudiL9410 жыл бұрын
Tarantino's films aren't similar to Leone's... He doesn't reference Leone... He downright copies Leone (along with a few other directors). The man has absolutely no originality.
@ijuarez48295 жыл бұрын
Rudi Leandro he admits to it and many of these other directors do the same . How can you say he has no originality ? Name another director who implements such dialogue into his characters..
@jemish_33534 жыл бұрын
@@ijuarez4829 I wonder why people like to say that inspiration is copying when it's not.And I can definitely tell how Tarantino was inspired by other films since some of the scenes in Inglorious basterds may have similar scenes compared to other films but he didn't straight up copy the original scenes
