The Niles-Simmons RQQ CNC Vertical Turning Center was conceived for the heavy duty machining of railway wheels. The CNC lathe's robust design, use of heavy-duty cutting tools with Capto C10 interface, and automatic tool change ensure optimum machining of forged or hot-rolled railway wheels.

That's what I thought ss well. So much waste. Perhaps the massivrness is required as it may be prone to warping.

Liked the video. I have always wanted a train wheel ever since I was a little kid. Something about that massive round wheel, the noise of the rolling train. Just the shear size and weight. The simplicity of it all. Cool machine.

I worked with a squad who stripped out a Craven Bros wheel lathe built in 1880 something from British Railways Heaton shed. It was designed to machine 8Foot driving wheels for Great Northern Railway Stirling Singles locomotives. It possibly still exists as I was working for a preservation society. That was in the early 1970’s.

Do you normally use coolant while cutting? Was it just turned off to show the cutting process? And when the part is being flipped over like that do you ever get any chips on the jaws causing the part not to be able to sit flat for the next operation? (seems like the jaws should be blown off first) Just asking because I'm curious :) Thanks for the video!
@nsh-usa
@nsh-usa 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ben - in terms of both processes you ask about, it all depends on the customer. For maintenance, I would say coolant usage is less likely. As for chip evacuation, yes, forced air is the norm. Thanks for watching!
