Great video- as always!! I just want to add something. Don’t shoot the messenger 😮💨 But the Better Than Bullion has maltodextrin in it. Maltodextrin can upset the gut biome big time. I steer clear of it 100%. I use a fat free veggie broth in the carton, that doesn’t contain oils. Hard to find organic but I’d choose that over maltodextrin any day. You do awesome work and I love love all your recipes. I have a whole folder just from your content!! I couldn’t be plant based successful without you!

ALWAYS LOVE your videos, Derek. Thank you ! I have digestion issues sometimes, and I find that KITCHARI is incredible. I keep it super super simple, low salt, no oil, white rice and split mung beans and very wet. This is a life saver when the gut is unhappy. It turns things around quickly. Also, I make homemade kraut and I think it's almost magic to keep the gut happy and those microbiotics thriving. Walking a bit after a meal is also KEY, and many cultures do it, not so much in the West sadly.

I have heard that drinking during or after meal dilutes the stomach "juice" and slows down digestion. I have followed this advice for many years and try to drink at least 15 minutes before meal and no sooner than one hour after. It works for me. Really enjoy your informative videos.

I read somewhere that liquids along with a meal is bad because it dilutes your bile in your stomach. And i do feel better ever since i stopped drinking for my meals. You do create more bile by drinking water but it takes a few hours. So you should only drink a few hours before or after a meal. Didnt know about the swedish bitters and other tips in here, greatly appreciated. Read the book Fiber Fueled! Excellent Book! I fixed my digestion pretty dramatically by following the protocols in the book. Increase fiber, take a prebiotic everyday (I do Benefiber), eat a Sauerkraut every single day. I dumped coffee and my afternoon digestions is SO much better for that. Also getting rid of constipation. Some don't even know they are constipated because they 'go' every day. But have 'stuff' backed up doesn't mean you'll never go. Having a backed up system causes bad bloating and gas. I took Miralax for a few days and cleaned the pipes, so to speak, and I responded much better to food. I then added the Benefiber and wow by bloating and gas were gone. HOpe this helps.

Maybe try increasing the calorie density and decrease the volume of food. Ex: cook the oats in soymilk, sub some of the berries for dried fruit or dates, add in some nut butter, or just doing a smaller portion of everything with a smoothie or pb toast or something on the side. When your body is used to a wfpb diet it can usually tolerate more of the nut butters, smoothies, fiber, etc without upsetting digestion :)

I agree. I am a small woman and could never eat the amour shown here. I was having such issues with beans. Well- I was eating a cup plus other stuff. Great video, next time if you like, please consider cooking with red lentils and split peas. These will give you a very nice buttery taste. Also, khichdi tastes amazing with basmati rice, but any rice usually works. For next time if you like, add some cumin seeds dry to your pot, let them roast, then add some asafoetida (powder you can get at any Indian store. Just a pinch). Next add your soaked lentils (red and split), their water is pretty nutritious. Consider adding that please. Mix all and just let cook for a minute. Now add rice and mix again. Add water to cook all. Stir everything. Add turmeric, garam masala, chilli powder, cumin powder. Mix all. Cook khichdi. You could add a bit of miyoko butter to give it taste. Have it with popaddam (available at Indian store) or air fried potatoes. Hope you like this recipe 😊

I would like to add to this very informative video. I recently put my stomach in so much digestive distress that I couldn't eat anything for weeks and then I lived on tuna sandwiches with greens and tomatoes for months. It's been almost a year and it's a bit better, but I realize I will have to forever change my diet, which it turns out is quite wonderful. I found FODMAP diet and I'm moving into vegan diet slowly. The food that gave me such an upset was dairy Greek yogurt. It was helping me "go" and I thought a little a day would work. Nope!!! That was the worst thing ever. I found out from the Monash University website that dairy is one of the worst things for IBS, well the regular, lactose free is ok. I read we shouldn't stay on this type of diet, which is actually not a diet, it's just for severe IBS, because we don't get enough nutrients on it. But! It changed my eating habits forever and I understand my gut better. So, I can't get off of it or I will s@#$ the bed, literally. On the FODMAP diet for IBS, garlic, onion and dairy are a BIG no no. Although, lactose free and garlic, onion oil are fine. Also, a lot of dairy free products are made from cashews, which is a BIG no no. With FODMAP for IBS the rules are a bit different, but so great. And, it's not a forever diet, but I'm not sure that applies if you have real IBS problems. For example, the sauerkraut is gonna be a problem, but purple sauerkraut might be better. I been watching Somebody Feed Phil and noticed people in the Middle East are becoming vegans and vegetarians. So great! I also found that I have a gluten sensitivity, not celiac, but sourdough has enough ingredients to break down gluten, so I been eating a ton of it, because I was off of bread for years. I gotta make up that time! There are vegan, FODMAP meals that people are coming up with. Also, oranges are extremely high in resveratol and treats inflammation from fibromyalgia. I have tried the supplement, but nothing works as well as the oranges. ATP in beer is great for pain, as a side note. I also found I am highly allergic to soy. I need Claritin or EPI for that. The doctors were telling me to stay away from foods, because I was allergic to certain ones. That was very hard to do, no seasonings, etc. Turned out vegetable oil is soy bean oil. I was always using that for cooking everything. I was not gonna eat anything, the way the docs reasoned it. So, I kept a food diary and I keep in mind if something is making me sick. In addition, chamomile tea is great for IBS and decreases the feeling of caffeine, so if you like coffee, having that in the evening really helps. I drink the Teccino and add chamomile to it, but not the kind with chicory, it's not good for IBS. Ya, I been in quite the conundrum for the past year. People want to go out to eat with me or have me over for dinner and I tell them I can't or I bring a tuna sandwich. It's really rude, but I can't help it. At this point, I am lucky to eat anything. I am really enjoying your videos and definitely worth the watch. I will be putting my herbs in a jar from now on. I must have spent 50 bucks this year trying to grow my own. I learned I don't have a green thumb. Thank you so much!!
