Definitely one of my all time favourite Season 4 episodes. I love the expansion on Duncan’s character and I absolutely adore his theme. Plus the dynamic he has with Rusty is really good. Plus I think his dynamic with James is quite underrated and should’ve been used more often, especially after Duncan’s Bluff. I agree that we could’ve had a story about Duncan teaching James to accept diesels after he grew to like Rusty. Easily one of the most nostalgic episodes for me, and one of my all-time favourites. This episode is one big reason why Duncan has forever been my favourite narrow gauge engine.

I love this episode a lot. We hear more of Duncan's theme tune and see him getting his just desserts after his rudeness towards Rusty. James's bragging was a good way to fool Duncan. I love the journey Duncan had, right up to the derailment. I also love the delivery of the line he gave after his accident 😀. "Sleepers and Ballast! I'm off!"

This is another great episode because it shows just how wreckless Duncan is and I found it interesting to see the passengers help to put him back on the line

Watch Duncan go, he can really rock 'n' roll, he can slip - he can slide, he can sway from side to side So when you hear him coming and you hear his whistle blow You'd better step aside 'cause he can go go go!

Despite still preferring the book version as the railway looked more like The Actual Tallyllyn Railway, I would say this was another of the better adaptations. The original story was mostly adapted word for word. Duncan’s derailment was my favourite part, as it was well made and creative. I also wish we got more interactions between Duncan and James too, as they were two of the funniest characters from the franchise. I also liked the sequence of them levering Duncan back onto the line, as it reminded me of videos and pictures I have seen of people re-railing derailed trains irl.
