I was introduced to this episode on the video tape 'Playtime', which had 3 songs on it too. I saw this story long before 'A Bad Day For Sir Handel'. Peter Sam is such a great character and is always willing to do his best. But he is easily fooled at times. I love this episode and I always loved the journey to the lakeside station. The part with the refreshment lady being left behind is one of my favourite bits of it.

I remember watching this entertaining episode on Nick Jr. as a child like with most of season four and my Henry was very cheeky to Peter Sam in this story.

Now this is a nice slice of life episode. I always find it odd that Henry was wearing one of Gordon's faces

Peter Sam & the Refreshment Lady is another episode I fondly remember on Sing-Along & Stories (I wasn't interested in the songs back when I was a kid, so I wanted to get to the episodes before I come to appreciate the songs as I grew older). This is also one of Christopher Awdry's favorite stories alongside Thomas Goes Fishing, Dirty Objects and Thomas Comes to Breakfast fun fact. Peter Sam is my favorite narrow-gauge character cause he has a fun character, his unique special funnel and the episodes where he has the spotlight are bangers - we find ourselves resonating w/ him growing up. It was interesting to know that this was one of the few Thomas stories to not only be based on a real-event, but one that involves the Rev. W. Awdry for which said-incident was caused by him and not the engine itself. Seeing O.J.'s model repurposed for this episode even w/o his face and changed to Lakesider is unique and as for Lakeside it looks so beautiful and real. And lastly, I love the dynamic between Peter Sam and Henry and it's so funny how all three narrow-gauge engines bounce off/clash w/ their big engine counterparts - like Duncan & James (Rock 'N' Roll and Duncan's Bluff) and Sir Handel & Gordon (on a few occasions). I wish we've seen this more often. Also, I love George Carlin's Italian accent for the Refreshment Lady.

"I'm Peter Sam, I'm running this line, I'm Peter Sam, I'm running this line, what fun is all is he thought as he journey along the line." I remember watching this episode as a kid and we know the next episode will be the one where Peter Sam has his accident.

This story I have huge nostalgia for, as I had both the episode on my Thomas Playtime VHS, and the original story in the book as a little kid too. As usual I prefer the book version, but as I have huge nostalgia for the episode as well, I would say that the adaptation was never changed to the point of insult as the text and basic story remained very much the same. I remember seeing Duncan and Rheneas in the background as a little kid, but never realised it was a goof till I grew up. I liked how they reused OJ’s model as well, as it would have been a shame to let it go to waste. I find the story that Awdry was the basis for the story myself. Fun Fact: “In the book The Fireman tells Peter Sam to “Sober up” I think we know the reason why that line was never added.

I still question how they managed to give Henry the wrong face. Even as a kid it confused me.

Given that I grew up with the George Carlin dub, I was under the impression that the refreshment lady was Italian. I haven't heard the UK dub in a long time. Was she Italian there too?
