He used to be really nasty, but isn't as bad now. A few years ago on Britain's Got Talent, there were people dressed in Storm Trooper outfits. I expected he would go mad and insult them badly, but he liked them. He's got softer since Eric was born.
@scokeatia3 жыл бұрын
I totally agree about Eric....but how did he like those Storm Troopers, omg, they were awful haha
@peterc.16183 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, I'm not sure if he would have 'softened' anyway with age but I suppose he doesn't want to set a bad example for his son (who often accompanies him). There have been occasions when someone has chosen the wrong song and he's given them another chance with a song better suited to their voice. The man made a fortune out of the music industry, lost it all, started again and succeeded so he does know quite a lot about what will sell. However, the public vote doesn't always pick the right winner; the really big stars have not come first in BGT or the Xfactor.

I will say he was unreasonably harsh sometimes, but some of these people were truly delusional. Some of them needed a reality check, but there were also people that they put through to auditions, that clearly had mental health issues and they did it for the laughs and drama, that's what stopped me watching these shows. It became exploitation.

You gotta let them know the truth. If you're more concerned about not hurting their feelings, they're not gonna know how bad they are, and how they can improve. They'll likely have some friends who keep telling them they're good just to not hurt their feelings. And that's reinforcing their delusion. Somebody has to tell them the truth otherwise they'll forever keep failing. The person giving out the dose of reality, whether you see them as a bully or not, they're helping them the most.

I have a high school friend who knows Simon personally and he said, Simon is a really nice guy. Personally, I think Simon has heard so many people over the years who think they can sing that he has become jaded. So, rather than be encouraging he’s just flat out honest to save the person in front of him the time and effort of trying to become famous through singing. The only thing I thing he should change is insulting people for their looks, but on their talent he can let rip. Also, when Americans use the word “loser” it has a very different connotation than it does in the U.K. loser over here in America means you’re a loser in life or practically everything. When Simon says, “loser,” he means in that specific competition. I remember the first time Simon told someone on American Idol that they were a loser and Randy and Paula were appalled and Simon couldn’t understand why they were so upset with him!! I thought it was hilarious, because as a Brit I knew exactly what Simon meant by “loser” and I also understood where Paula and Randy were coming from. 🤣🤣I love Simon, cos he’s keeping it real!!

"trying to become famous through singing." Therein lies the problem; talentless people trying to become famous. If you have a talent and succeed at practising that talent you may become famous but too many people want fame at any cost. Personally I can't think of anything worse than not being able to go about my business without being appraoched by strangers.

The alternative view is that of Susan Boyle who the audience took one look at her, poorly dressed, frumpy, overweight, 'occupation' "I'm unemployed", strong Scottish accent, she was 48 years old, educationally challenged never sang at any venue, first talent contest she entered. A total loser. The audience were aghast, beginning to laugh nervously "this is a joke". She then sang 'I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miserables. The audience then began to cheer her every line and burst into massive applause. The Panel sat open mouthed; Cowell said "Well, I just knew we we were going to hear something extraordinary tonight!". She got a recording contract and is now worth £Millions.

@TheRenaissanceman65 I think most of us were brought up to tell the truth, weren't we? Rather a large jump to assume I bucked that trend - based on the fact that I don't like unkindness. Throughout our lives people are having to break bad, sometimes devastating, news to us.Or make us see reality when we have a dream that will never come true. Fortunately, I haven't come across any of those kinds of people who've decided it would be a good idea to throw in a little gratuitous embarrassment, humiliation and hurt while they're at it. But then again, I don't expect any of them got offered large sums of money to do so.

The thing about Cowell is that he is rarely wrong in his assessment of ability. However, not only is he unnecessarily rude and mean to people, HE chooses (his production company, Syco Entertainment makes these shows) the contestants that get aired. These people are terrible singers but they don't know it, many of them clearly have psychiatric or learning difficultiesyet Cowell chooses to ridicule them in front of millions of viewers. In Victorian times the practice of charging the public to enter mental asylums to laugh at and mock the afflicted inmates was banned as inhuman and degrading. Cowell has found a way to reintroduce that horrible money-making venture.

Okay, with some of the contestants you just know that no-one close to them has ever said, "Sweetheart, you know I love you ... but you cannot sing " In fact they're probably encouraged by everyone around them to "Yeah, go for it, you could definitely win". And the poor buggers believe it and enter the contest filled with hope and a belief that they're great! Then they meet Simon and we witness their crushing reality check. It is classic car crash TV. That said, if these shows didn't have the truly awful element, those who are embarrassingly bad, then the shows would be boring. Clearly some are chosen because they're hopeless just to add to the mix. I can just picture Cowell as a Roman emperor at the Coliseum giving a thumbs up/down and lions being released to drag losing contestants to their death! He must spend a fortune on security as there's likely a fair few psychos out there would love to get their hands round his neck.

I've never really liked Simon Cowell. There's being brutally honest with someone and then there's taking things a step too far and being nasty to provide entertainment at the expense of people's feelings. Just because someone believes they're better than they are at singing doesn't mean they're not going to be crushed when they hear what others think of them. And that's just when he critiques someone's singing. Criticising someone's physical appearance is totally unacceptable if you ask me. Just my opinion though!
