Sometimes, I forget how fierce & assertive Simon could be because of how often I see him being a softie with Wilhelm, Sara, and his mother. The way he stands up for his truths, not letting anyone stomp him down (or be kept in the dark) bcos he knows he deserves better, justifies his decision at the end of s1. Throughout the s2, he’s been given options (to not be with Wilhelm) and he tries to explore/escape difficult emotions with these (with a push from friends and mother), but he also sees how wilhelm longs for him (and subconsciously, he knows he himself longs for wilhelm too) and how willing wilhelm to chose him instead of the crown. His heart is fierce and assertive but he’s also soft and warm for the people he loves, so he’s willing to be kept in the dark. What’s funny is how wilhelm’s decision of telling the truth shows these two’s development from mostly scared + unconfident s1 wilhelm to assertive and confident s2 wilhelm AND not-willing-to-compromise-his-public-identify simon to willing-to-compromise his-public-identity simon. Difficulties forces people to grow. It’s lovely how we see these two grow *towards each other.*
