They clearly weren't getting along during this time period (just like right now) but once they start singing it doesn't matter. It's utterly genius.

With the vocal and arrangement differences from the original, there had to be at minimum a few hours of rehearsals. Give the level of professionalism of these guys, it was likely many hours. Hard to imagine getting through that with mutual animosity.

I hate paul simon because who he is. Homeward bound sounds way better without garfunkle flat notes. It sounds silly when both sing together. Sounds way too folk for what its going for changes in tempo too
