They sound exceptionally good together - you can see how carefully Andy Williams is listening, to make sure that his voice blends with Arty's and Paul's as near perfectly as anyone could wish for. The three of them perform the song like a piece of chamber music. Their reverence for the text adds to its air of mystery, but it is their attentiveness to each other that makes this performance so particularly touching.

I listen to S&G a lot and as a young man I must say whenever this song comes on on shuffle i can feel the hope it may have exported, but I also hear the hopelessness of our modern day society in it and I know I sound like the joker and I know I haven’t struggled hardly financially, but everyday it’s as if it gets grimmer and grimmer as the door slowly shuts on this world.

@yankeejohn58 speaking of collabs, as soon as I heard this song with these three singing with nothing more than a microphone, an acoustic, and well... their passion. After listening to a few repeats, an idea for a fanfic starring them popped into my brain; set in the medieval period. I imagine casting Simon & Garfunkel as common serfs drafted into the chivalry to amuse the noblemen with their music. And as for Andy Williams, he'll be portraying the lead knight of the pack, on the verge of being demoted from his position when he was caught flirting with the queen, with this war being his only chance for redemption. And along the way, through thick and thin, a friendship brews.

Truly the best version of this song. Such pure harmonies, such clear guitar, just beautiful. Would’ve loved it if Andy Williams would’ve recorded an album with Simon & Garfunkel when they were still together and he was still alive.

Art Garfunkel’s voice had such an effortless, open quality to it, and great range. Simon’s writing was second to none. And Andy Williams was such an amazing vocalist himself. Great stuff.

I know right? Art looks like he's not even trying whenever he sings - no straining or facial expressions of effort - just this unreal clarity that's like pouring water whenever he sings. What a gift to be given and personally I'm so glad he shared it with the world. Him and Simon together are just à match made in heaven .

Long time fan of Simon and Garfunkel's but never heard this before. this is absolutely incredible and Andy Williams is a perfect fit for their voices in Harmony and he actually adds something to this to where now I am spoiled for life and this is my favorite version of this song now. I wonder if Andy ever did anything else with them if not it would be a shame. They could have easily made an album together because the three of their voices together are just incredible. Not sure if Simon and Garfunkel's egos (or record labels) could have handled that but we would have been spoiled nonetheless. In any event I am so grateful to have found this treasure!

Listened and liked this song for decades. Didn't realize this is a protest song till a few years ago. Now I love it but the lyrics cut my heart deep.

Protest song...??? How so ?? Thought this was a Medieval/ Ren time period song.

Like Andy Williams said...they didn't need lights and dancers and all that. Pure, raw talent. That's all that's needed. And they had it. Mesmerizing.

Amazing! Andy actually added to it to make it even better, and that's not easy when it's already great.

That was beautiful. Andy Williams was a fine singer and musician and such a nice man. I met him once at Western Recorders in Los Angeles. He was a big star at the time and I was just a lowly roadie, but he couldn't have been more gracious and warm.

When I was a kid.. I loved Paul Simon.. but always loved the harmonies. As I am now a Grandma.. I see Art Garfunkel as a angel spirit on earth, cloaked in a human body. And Paul Simon.. POET.

The complexity of simplicity is truly amazing... a guitar, three voices, thought provoking lyrics. Music in a clean and almost naked state from a time so long ago, but not really. Thank you for posting this magnificent version.

bixbybixby: "I think Andy Williams almost can't handle the directness and intensity and depth of feeling and beauty that's coming from Garfunkel's singing and face and eyes during the song" Make no mistake that there is a look of awe in Art's eyes as he harmonizes with one of popular music's best.

Andy added another layer of richness to a beautiful song! I am really impressed that he respected the song and the genre enough to sing it the way Simon and Garfunkel meant for it to be sung, and not turn it into an "Andy Williams' song." It really highlights what a lovely voice he had.

I was born in the late sixties-my parents were Simon and Garfunkel fans and I was fortunate to grow up hearing this song often. It never, ever gets old-always amazing every time I hear it. Somber and haunting yet hopeful at the same time. This harmonizing is beautiful. Reminds me of safety and simpler times.
