To be fair (no pun intended) Paul Simon picked it up from Martin Carthy - one of our all time great folk masters - in the 60s when he came over for a visit.

You know if you're randomly singing and someone comes up and joins and you hit harmony for a few precious seconds and you can't stop smiling and you don't want it to end. They must have felt that feeling all of their lives.

They had no idea of the beauty they created together. They had no clue how far reaching the impact of the souls they would inspire, like me all these years later.

they just have something so special about them.. I can’t even explain but it’s like they are able to put all human emotions, all the pains and joys of literally every human ever of all time, into just one song. and a single guitar and their voices are perfectly able to reflect all that, by themselves. genius.

My exgirlfriend's stepson looks quite similar. He's an eastern Turkish-Swiss mix, I think. Simon and Garfunkel are of course Ashkenazi Jewish.
