This brings back so many happy and sad memories for me, my brother and my two older sisters. Our father+ was a great fan of Simon and Garfunkel. I came from a very musical family. We kids use to sing songs like these when we and mam were doing the dishes in the kitchen. Our father+ played several instruments but always said he couldn’t sing. But while were were singing in the kitchen we heard soft his voice coming from the living room, doing a second vocal on every song. Hearing Simon & Garfunkel makes me long back to those moments. :’(

Dear dad, I heard a song today that reminded me of you, a song that you had heard many times before. I know you prefer the music from before the war, But you listened to my music anyway. And you always had a smile as the music played. You fought in world War II, and, And was my hero, even though you didn't like to talk about it. This is the song that made me think of you, the fighter who left while there was still some of you that remained. Even though you're gone now, everyone says he lived a long life at 97 years old, you still remain in my heart and my mind. I love you Dad, but more than that I respect you deeply.

I was moved to tears immediately as they began to sing, as their voices meld together like chocolate blending into milk for a treat that's better than each. Just the idea that these two men were able to put any differences aside to participate in the ceremony of performing an anthem created decades ago and performed hundreds of times prior to this culmination of sorts. And for so many in the audience's watchful, eager eyes - it's all the more gratifying to hear the many thousands join in the simple haunting chorus of "lie la lie." And next, the duo - well-seasoned like an iron skillet cooking up a hearty dish - hitting the heights of the song with all their breath. Gosh this is beautiful and worth every penny of the high ransom the front rows must have paid for the once-in-a-lifetime experience of seeing these American heroes practice their craft on stage live. 🥹
