While I am sure Textor knows we Everton fans will enjoy hearing what he says about the club, I think there is more to his words than pure cynical salesmanship. The very fact he can see that Everton has a kind of iconic historical stature, despite its current mediocrity, tells me that he is really a football romantic, someone who actually has quite a deep feel for the history and meaning of the game in this country.

It didn't happen because Everton simply don't have the world wide fan base of top tier Premier league clubs and that can only change with years of decent success. Simply having the money to buy better players isn't the answer as all that happens is those players only go to Everton for the huge wages they offer, they dont perform at there best level because they dont care about the club, they just enjoy the higher wages they are being paid and then move on like Richarleson/Gordon etc. Look at players like Diaz at Liverpool, he's on 90K a week, Everton would have to treble that for a player like him as they are sacrificing any hope of trophies so they demand a higher wage. Maybe the new stadium will bring them a boost in status but by the looks of it they could be well spending their first season in it in the championship.
