no what would happen is that Nike will have a contract with the FA to produce shirts for them. Nike will then go away and make some different shirt concepts and propose a number of different designs to the FA along with their design thinking for each shirt ( so for example some of the recent Arsenal kits have been designed in paying homage to previous kits or teams, that is thinking behind their designs ). Nike would have proposed this design along with others to the FA and it was up to the FA to either accept, ask for alterations or new designs to be made. Nike should have better design sensibilities in the first place and the FA should have said no thank you.

Nike and Adidas should be ashamed of the prices they charge for new shirts at the big clubs, three new kits a year plus the goalkeeper kit and it’s always well over £120 to buy. Funny thing is you can buy the same shirt in Asia where it is made for about £10. Fans are being ripped off and it’s really shameful from the suppliers and the clubs. Including my own club Liverpool who are ripping fans off every season

The flag is the combination of the shape and the colour, both are integral. The Union Flag is a very recogniseable shape, and therefore its meaning survives when you change the colour - as per the olympic kit.
