Great video. I have crossed that bridge several times and it is SCARY! You see I am a native West Virginian and remember when the Silver Bridge fell December 15, 1967.

My father took our family to the Silver Bridge accident site a week or so after it happened. I was 8 years old & can still remember the cranes & barges in the river. Here is a recap of my memories of that event: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qaexm2mbn5qBia8

Interesting video from my view in Iowa. The suspension bridge is quite a fine looking structure and should last (with consistent inspections) another 50 years or more.

Let's hope so for our sake. We travel across this bridge several times a week! Thanks for watching.

I would have loved to watch the construction. If I lived in Maysville back then I would have sat back on 6th street and admired the veracity of the situation. Truly amazing.

She is a beauty. I dig Ashland and farther down the CSX for amazing bridges also. Maysville has a feel to its own. I dig it.

Very similar in design to the old Fort Steuben bridge that used to connect Weirton WV with Steubenville OH. That bridge was torn down in every early 2013.

Portsmouth Ohio had a similar one too...it was replaced 10-15 years ago.

A sister bridge was at Portsmouth Ohio, about 50 miles up the Ohio. It’s been gone about 20 years. It had more structural issues during its lifespan.

I remember riding across that bridge years ago. It did look VERY similar.

So much of east Kentucky history is tied to that bridge. My family traveled across it a bunch in the 50s and 60s hauling hay and probably not so legal items across it back and forth from Powell County to Middletown, OH. So many eastern Kentuckians crossed that as they found a better living at a factory job in Ohio.

I agree...this bridge is a lifeline for those in Aberdeen, Ripley & other small towns in Ohio.
