I so much more enjoy drummers that utilize dynamics and musical taste rather that seeing how fast they can play and just bashing the hell out of everything. Simon is a prime example of musical taste and dynamics.

All trolls commenting negatively : I suggest you make a video of yourselves demonstrating your so called ability, post it on KZbin, then let the rest of us who admire and look up to this man/ drummer/studio engineer/producer, and session legend, be the judge of whether or not you're deemed worthy of even being as good as his pinky toe nail..Oh, then you can show us your career spanning credentials with famous musicians, artists, and bands..Better get cracking..

He is a millionaire or close at least and his timing between hand and foot is not so great. I didn't thumb down but this solo is too sloppy for him. His worst solo I have ever seen. There are lots drummers way more advanced than this but since you want to idolize him go right ahead. He isn't the best by a long shot. He is still one of my favorites.

I'm a drummer and I admit that I'll usually be the first to hit the concession stand when a drum solo starts at a live show. That being said, I could watch Simon Phillips play all day. Both he and Gavin Harrison do such musical solos; they're the only ones I really enjoy watching.

Having been a long time fan Simon, it was great to see some of the elements from the original DCI video solo from about 25 years ago.
