57:50 The ironic part is, the Ring is - spoiler here - important to Dracula's evil plan. Had he thrown the Ring away after using it to enter the Castle, Dracula would have been gone forever.)

I had the Nintendo Fan Club issue special when this first came out in late ‘88. I remember taking that issue with me to read over the weekend while I stayed with my aunt after my uncle died. It was a tough time but we did our best to get through it. There were a lot of really interesting things going on then with games though. Nes publishers were trying a lot of new things with their biggest titles - the Mario and Zelda sequels were both open ended, non-linear games and I never think of those two games without thinking of Castlevania 2. Those 3 games defined that particular time and it was such a cool thing to see big companies being innovative and taking risks. This was the only game out of the three that I didn’t get a chance to play at the time. I was 9 when it came out but I didn’t end up playing it until 24 years later. I also made it through somehow without looking anything up, with the exception of one part, when I needed to get out of the lava area faster. Not a perfect game - it has its flaws, but to me it’s a classic.

I know I'm showing my lack of skills here (and I'm not trying to bootlick "authority" with what I'm gonna say) but these games are pretty fun to play through on the Anniversary Collection now that we have a legal option with save states. I just never got around to playing through them with "other means".
