Watching you fight your way through the English waterways jungle I thought what a good idea it would be if someone/ authority could clean up those waterways a bit, trimming back the overgrowth to make it easier to find your way through and not having to up canoe and carry to the next good spot. What a glorious feeling gliding along in the canoe with you though.

That campsite looked ok, a bit more comfortable than nettle city lol..Some of the more out of the way campsites are not bad really...especially when the kids are at school (....or other peoples screaming kids haha..!) we couldnt get through from homersfield where we started near black swan . completely blocked with reeds and branches, had to go back and start again from outney meadows campsite.

Yes, it can get pretty choked up along that section upstream from Homersfield - late Winter, early spring is a good time to attack it - more water in the river and the reeds haven’t grown up too much. Cheers, Simon

Cheers Woods! Yes, that campsite was welcome - I’d have preferred to wild camp, but there just wasn’t anything - all floodplain and long grass. Really pleased with the filter, apart from Wiels disease and bacteria in the water, I was concerned about pesticides and herbicides from the surrounding farmland - this filter removes them all (or so they claim! Haha) Episode three will be up this week! Thanks buddy, Simon.

Cheers Mark! I was really pleased with the filter, has a 0.4 micron pore size so removes all viruses, pesticides and herbicides along with the usual bacteria, diseases and other horrible stuff! What a brilliant film Simon, I was paddling along with you both. Very impressed with the HD clarity, only hope my new Sony a6300 camera comes some where close. You were very lucky to find the GoPro camera (always have it tied to the canoe). I'm certainly going to check-out that campsite and canoe hire. Is there a good pub nearby serving food? Hi Neil, yes, you do need a licence to paddle most (but not all) of our waterways - easily obtained by joining the British Canoe Union - membership includes the licence (although I have never been stopped and asked to produce it!) cheers, Simon

What a great river trip! I am not a camera buff so have no idea about this really but is there such thing as a lanyard for cameras so that they can be attached to the boat in case they come off their boat attachment? If not, I think I would make one because both of you have had real good luck to have found your cameras during this trip! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Jacqueline! We were very lucky to have found them! You can get lanyards and floating gizmos so they don’t sink!! I learnt a lesson on this trip - I do take more caution now - any deeper and I’d never have found mine that’s for sure!! 😁

Rather you than me re the water filter. No filters on the market work on a bacteria level and theirs a weils disease outbreak in the UK at the moment. Purification tablets plus boiling is the only true safe way to drink the water.

My filter removes 99.999% of bacteria, virus and disease including Weils, it also removes most pesticides and herbicides - it’s one of the only filters that does - I’m totally confident in its ability to purify - it was designed for filthy, effluent and disease ridden water in third world disaster areas. 👍 (I cant stand the taste of chlorine in my water either 😁)

Simon, I would strongly suggest the new Micro over the Mini. It has 3x the flow rate over the Mini. I have been using a Mini for about 4 years and recently switched to the Micro and it is a vast improvement in terms of flow. Keep the great vids coming !!

I heard that you wandered into a norfolk reed bed and spent 20hours laying in a swamp awaiting to be rescued by drone police coastguard fire service air ambulance but it may have been that 75yr old man who said to his wife n kids when they visited him in hosp next morning where are my newspapers!!!? After scaring his entire family he went to see the seals apparently? But thought he had 1.5 hrs but only had 30mins!! Got lost in rspb reserve!! As you do like naturally?

Very underrated is concrete - it’s become a bit of a fashionable thing to have in your house - polished concrete floors and kitchen worktops - I don’t get it myself, but each to their own eh!

Simon, a bloke in the woods Yes if you make up a wooden frame what you can do is mix up some high density concrete with flint chippings they leave the edges all holey and unkempt looking roughish ind effect but what you can do then is mix in to final fine resinous mix lots of different finishes like glitter floor for a garage etc the yanks are doing it a lot but you can put in seashells from Norfolk beaches then smooth it off on surface for kitchen counter top or dye the concrete diff colors However I've just made a shower plinth out of 1000yr old oak it's bloody bullet proof harder than concrete I rescued it from An old beam I found in a 15th c barn it was destined for firewood heap I shall resist the song about spam Fried up it's quite nice actually in a breakfast or sandwich Americans like it But they don't do Monty python accent so well As yet mate
