I enjoyed ringing these! I think they have character.

They do, and they're not quite as bad as I remember! You need to come back and ring all 10, tho

I rang here last week with the "Edingers" as the Young and Old ringers get together and they arent too bad! Its odd to ring with the bells just above your head as the backstroke tends to snap as the sally goes through the boss - Most noticeable on the 7, 8, 9, and 10. The tenor is also quite a nice bell too but, I do agree with how they don't really go together with the back bells and the front lot! There isn't as much clapper knock as you would expect but, it is vaguely clear when ringing the back six or four.

They are a strange ring - they just don't work as a ten. The "snap" isn't uncommon with low ceilings, but the sallies do come down where you expect them to (some low draughts cause them to jump which is most disconcerting). They are a strange, rustic old ring really - the back four are at odds with the bright front six! PS - scored our peal at Calne, they were a *lot* harder than I remembered! Definitely in need of a rehang - I will be interested to see how they turn out as a ten (especially compared to Edington, say!). We got some nice feedback from the locals, who were delighted to have their bells rung for the Jubilee, I've been after a peal there for years so was pleased to finally score one. :-) kzbin.info/www/bejne/m6Kck6Wfg5t5rtE

@@simonbellringer Well done on the peal! I ring there most Fridays now and, yep they are asking for a rehang now! Everyone said on the practice night how nice it was to hear their own ring from the outside instead of the inside and they where also plesently confused how you managed to get the bells to strike so nicely! I reckon, as a ten they would sound much grander then they are now (If the 8 was more tuned than they are now...) They are also being retuned to a true Dmaj scale, so they should sound right instead of being roughly a descending scale. I'm starting to get more confident with the bells now (I can ring all of them now) they used to frighten me at first as they are so unpredictable, but I will have to relearn the technique for each bell once they are rehung. In theory though, they will be significantly easier and hopefully, there won't be the weird "false stay" effect that you get on the tenor...

@@BellringerBen if anything, it was 6-7 who seemed to struggle the most. It was a heave throughout, but satisfying to ring a challenging peal of bells to a fairly high standard like that. I do like Calne, and think with some tuning (they aren't terrible at the mo, but could be brightened up) and a good rehanging job, they could be a fine, old-style ring that the tower so deserves! And ringing - and mastering! - the tricky bells makes one a better ringer all round - you can go to virtually any tower after Calne and they will be a comparative walk in the park!

@@simonbellringer Haha! Yes indeed most towers seem easier after ringing in Calne!
