Each single one of your films inspires and instructs me more than watching 100 videos of impossibly expensive journeys to impossibly remote locations (Iceland, Faroe Islands, etc.). An unremarkable wood in the UK, late morning, crap light, only 2.5 hours available. Result : 3 stunning images. Genius!

You have done it again - created something artistic from things most of us would walk past! Keep up the good work. I think most of us can only allow either a morning or and afternoon a week for our photography and so your time constraint was very helpful.

This is so reflective of my own situation. In fact if I get 3 hours in the woods I'd consider that a triumph! I believe you have to treat every outing as a chance to practice, learn and connect... but don't expect. This is one of the reasons I splashed out on a Ricoh GRiii so even my runs become a chance to practice photography. As with so much, it all comes down to mindset.

Three lovely photographs. Thanks for sharing all this with us! You remind me my photography sessions on my lunch breaks. But then, I only have about 30 minutes and I'm not in a forest ;) I do have some trees and some flowing water nearby, so there's that. The hard life of a landscape photographer who does something else for a living, in a big city... Still tons of fun :)

Simon - I am a bit late to the party here. Love your water shots. When people say shooting in harsh bright light is a waste of time, I would argue these conditions are ideal for taking images as you have here involving reflective and refractive light in moving water. These situations can result in gorgeous and novel abstracts even without ICM. I am completely hooked on this sort of thing.

Yes it's good fun exploring what the camera can produce. Eye witness type photography is good but the results don't come with addition of a surprise when you get them back. I generally have an idea and then let the camera build on it.

Another wonderful video with beautiful images Simon. I love how you photographed that little reflection pool! I fixate on finding a still one then work a focus stack because of the disparity in the focus of the reflection verses the surrounding area. This gives me an idea to do it in a more abstract way. Thanks for yet another great "Boothian" idea!

A good video - I enjoyed it. I've found it easy to become discouraged with photography. Particularly when it is a hobby, so most of the time you can't get out to a place at the best time of day and with ideal conditions. Also its easy to feel that its not worthwhile to visit somewhere if it is not a spectacular location. Then there is the whole gear trap. Its nice to see a different approach.

Thanks for creating another inspirational video. Training the photographic eye is a never ending process. The inclusion of,what I think of as, micro-scapes increases almost exponentially the number of compositions that can be evaluated in a fixed amount of time. As usual you captured some excellent examples. Thank again.

Hi Simon, great images as usual. I'm the photographer who was walking on the other side of the river when you were there, I wasn't sure that was you and I didn't want to come and disturb you anyway. Great stuff Simon. A question about your exposure choice on the sycamore leaves image. You reduced the exposure in order to get the tonality you wanted, but wouldn't you have achieved the same by "exposing to the right" and then reducing the exposure in post - with the added benefit (I'm told) of increasing the amount of data/detail in the image? The image appeared very detailed anyway - but I just wondered if there were other reasons for your choice

The Pentax is extremely good at lifting the shadows so as long as I’m not clipping on the histogram, I can get what I want. I’ve read the same about detail but with my camera, it seems to work this way perfectly. Other Pentax MF shooters have said the same. I thinks it’s a case of one rule doesn’t fit all boxes.

I don't know how import income from KZbin is to you, either directly or indirectly, so if you experiment with different formats of films you make for KZbin and it affects view counts I don't know what that does to you. But I would say: make the films as you want to make them and if you feel like experimenting with a somewhat different format, do so and find what you like best! I'm quite sure that I will find value in each of different formats you will choose.

It doesn't make nearly enough Tim for the time that I put in if I view it that way. I took two days off work a month to follow my KZbin dream and it doesn't come close to fulfilling that shortfall.
@TimvanderLeeuw
@TimvanderLeeuw Жыл бұрын
@@SimonBoothPhotography Well -- all the more reason to just do the things on KZbin the way you feel like doing them! The income you get from it is not worth fretting about and it will help to avoid burnout on chasing the algorithm, which is something I hear about from quite a lot of creators.

Hi Simon, fantastic images as always and I too am happy you're not changing the video format up! I do have a question and I'm wondering if your experience shooting film might be the answer, but is there a reason why you capture the image at the exposure you envisage the end result to be and not pushed more to the right and pulled back in post? Genuinely curious as I've seen you do that a lot and the results obviously speak for themselves. Best wishes

No, it’s not a film thing. I know my camera and it is better at lifting the shadows than it is at lowering the highlights.
